Chapter 12

Alice and Dana sat in silence. Alice spoke first.

Alice: Maybe I shouldnt have brought her up. ( she turned her head from Danas eyes).

Dana: No, Im glad you did. Its just…Im not exactly sure what to do.

With that comment Alice became infuriated. She stood up and began searching for her clothes.

Dana: Where are you going? ( Dana sounded panicked).

Alice: I hafta go Dane. This wasnt a good idea. (Alice turned her back to Dana to wipe the tears away.)

Dana: What? Why? ( Dana stood naked to block Alice from leaving the room).

Alice: Please Dana, let me go. ( Alice was trying to think of any reason Dana would let her go without a fight.) I hafta be there for Tina.

Dana: Tina is a big girl. I know you like to be a hero Al, but dont we need to talk about this?

Alice squeezed past Dana. She finished zipping her pants and headed for the door. Alices brain was spinning. How dare Dana say she didnt know what to do with Tonya. She just admitted being in love with me. No this was a bad idea.

Dana: Al…I just ***** told you that I am in love with you…why are you walking away?

Now it was Danas turn for tears.
Alice looked back at Dana. She didnt want her to cry, she hated seeing her cry. But she couldnt allow herself to be hurt by Dana.

Alice: Im sorry Dane. You are engaged to be married. Tonya loves you, who am I to ***** all that up for you? I should have just kept my mouth shut that night. Im sorry I didnt. ( Alice opened the door to walk out).

Danas emotions got the better of her and she yelled to Alice.

Dana: Al…wait please! ( her voice cracked a little with all the emotion.)

Alice turned to face her friend. Dana put her back against the wall and slid down to the floor.
Alice wanted to run to her but she was afraid to make this any harder on either of them.

Alice: Dana, please dont cry. ( she was pleading). Im just doing what is best for you. Try to understand that.

Dana: Answer me this…Did you not enjoy making love to me? Why would you say you were in love with me and then just leave? I just dont understand you Al.

Alice: Dana, making love to you was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. And I do love you. But who am I to ***** everything up between you and Tonya? Ill admit it, I dont like her. But Im not sure why. Im not sure if I dont like her because I dont think she is good enough for you, or If Im just jealous because I want to be with you.

Dana: Did you not hear what I just said? I said I was in love with you.

Alice: I know…( Alices voice soon turned to a whisper) But you also said you werent sure what to do with Tonya…I hafta go.

With that Alice ran out and left Dana crying on the floor.
She got to her car and put her head on the steering wheel. Alice could still taste Dana on her lips. She knew she should go back. Alice knew she was just being overly emotional. She was over reacting. Dana had said she loved her and Alice believed her. But she turned this around to make Dana feel like she had done something wrong. The truth was Alice wasnt afraid that Dana would hurt her…she was afraid she would hurt Dana.
