Naive Perception of Perfect Chapter 8

Bette lay sobbing on her bedroom floor. She felt like her world was crumbling around her. Everything had gone terribly wrong. She had never meant for any of this to happen. She just enjoyed giving up control to Candace. Letting someone else run the show. With Tina she always had to be in charge. She was sure NOW if she had told Tina that, Tina would have gladly taken the reins. *****, it was all so fucked up. Bette didnt know anything but Tina. That was her whole life. She couldnt let her go ahead with the plans for divorce. She wouldnt let that happen. No matter what that meant. Just then Bettes phone rang and she grabbed for it hoping it would be Tina.

    Bette: Tee??

Candace: Uh, no. Bette, its Candace.

    Bette: What do you want?

Candace: Did I call at a bad time or something. I mean I can call back.

Bette: No, well, yes. Yes you called at a bad time and no I dont want you to call back.

Candace: Ok(a little confused). I wanted to know if you have a chance to sneak out. I found this great Tai restaurant in town and I thought

    Bette cut her off.

Bette: No, Candace. This, whatever we had. Its over.

Candace: Oh. Wow. Ok. I didnt think.

Bette: Neither did I and thats the problem. I fucked up everything with Tina. She found out. Its over.

Candace: huh? You and me or you and Tina?

Bette: Both. Its over and I am asking you as politely as I can to please never call me again.

Candace: Well, Bette if thats what you want, then I wont.
Im sorry about all this. I just couldnt help myself with you.

Bette: I should have been able to help myself with you.

Candace: If there is anything I can do, although, Im sure Ive done enough. Let me know.

    Bette: Thank you.

With that Bette hung up the phone. She twirled the wedding ring on her finger, trying to remember a time when things were good. A time long ago
