“Miss Porter!”

“Oh girl please, call me Kit. This is my husband Sonny Benson.”

“Hi mr. Benson.”

“As my wife said, you can call me Sonny. You did good. We enjoyed your show.”

Candice gave them a shy smile.

“I’m flattered getting a compliment from a great singer like you. I didn’t know you would visit my show. I guess if I’d known I would fuck up.”

All three started to laugh. Kit ordered them to sit and have dinner. Being a singer herself, she knew that after a show you’re hungry and a light meal was a blessing. Since she didn’t know what Candice her favorite dish was, she had fish, chicken and a turkey salade but also vegetables and pasta.
They started dinner and talked about the show. Kit gave Candice some advise on how she could overcome some difficulties in some of her songs.
When dinner was done, Kit came straight tot he point.

“Besides the fact that I loved your performance, that was not my only reason for meeting you.”

Sonny hearing the thrill in Kit’s voice, hold her hand.

“I received your letter Candice and I want to know if you really met my sister?”

“First of all, I want to thank you Kit and Sonny. This was a treat and a complete surprise. To answer your question and get you out of the strain, yes, I think I met your sister.”

Kit looked at her husband.

“Oh Sonny, she’s alive!”

That’s when Kit broke down. Sonny embraced his wife and soothed her. Candice watched the scene and wondered what the story behind this all was. But she didn’t want to ask, She would wait untill Kit was ready to talk.

When Kit stopped crying she stood up and went to the restroom to clean up her face. When she came back, she told Candice her story and how she lost track of her baby sister. Candice on her turn told Kit everything she could tell about Bette, which wasn’t that much but more than Kit had heard over the years.
She told Kit about the Joint where she sang every Sunday. She also told Kit that she invited Bette fort he coming Sunday to sing with her. Off course she couldn’t tell Kit if Bette would come but if Kit wanted to meet her sister that was the place to be,
When Kit and Sonny left, it was way passed midnight. But Kit was a happy woman. Her sister was alive and she and Candice had made a plan to meet her soon.

Kit and Sonny drove to the hotel where there was another surprise waiting for Kit. Sonny had brought their son with him. When Kit walked into the room and saw her little baby boy laying there, she was thrilled with love for her husband and her child. She walked to the bed and kissed her son softly on his forehead. With eyes full of love she looked at him, whishing that both her mothers were here to see their grandchild. Sonny watched the scene with teary eyes. He was so in love with Kit. She was the most sweet and loving woman he ever met. When she told him stories about her stepmother he always said to her that she was the cause of her being the way she was. The only thing that hurt him was the hate Kit felt towards her father. He agreed, her father didn’t do a good job at all but that she still hated him after all these years, hurt him real bad. But somehow he would have to tell his wife that her father was dying and he was sorry for what he’ddone to her, her sister and her mothers.
But seeing her like this, he would tell her tomorrow, not now.
