Girls, I know I’m not the one to say this but if you’re going to spent your lifes together. Make time to for one another. Tell each other how much you care about each other, how much you love each other. Because one day it might be too late. The peron’s gone and you cannot express your feelings. I regret so many things I did wrong in my life. Don’t make the mistakes I made.”

“Mr Porter, if I may say so, I don’t think it’s too late. Your girls are here and I think you have changed and they have. So whatever you did wrong, I think they are willing to forgive you. If they were not, I don’t think they’d be here.”

Bette looked at Tina when she said those words as did Melvin.

“You are an old soul, my child. But I think you are right. I have changed, it took some time but I have changed. Kit has changed, I know that. And Bette has changed too, I can feel that. So what I do hope is that I can spend some years with you guys. Not to make up for those lost years but to enjoy the legacy of my wifes because they did good. More than I deserved.”

After those words everyone was quiet. They each thought about the words Melvin had spoken.

“Ladies, would you mind to walk me back to the clinic? It’s time for my nap.”

Bette and Tina stood up helping Melvin on his feet. And quietly they walked back. They helped him taking off his shoes and put him into his bed. When they said goodbye and walked away, Melvin called Tina back.

When Bette was out of the room, he beckoned her and petted his bed for her to sit.

“Tina, I’m happy you’re my daughter’s girlfriend. I think she couldn’t have met someone better. I watched you closely when I asked you questions. The way you answered them and the way you make your point. You are a very considered person. I hope that I can be a good father-in-law for you for the time that is given to me. I don’t know what the girls told you but I was not a good father. Not for them and certainly not for their mothers. I know they forgave me but it doesn’t make up for what I’ve done to them. Although we just met, I hope you can forgive me too because what I did to Bette in the past, made her the person she’s now.”
