New York Minute – chapter 47

“I promised you that I would be here for you and Angie and I meant it . Yes its unexpected and yes it’s a shock but it must have been so hard for you to deal with this for so many years with the fear that something like today could happen”

“There isn’t a day when it doesn’t go through my head “

    “I am sorry “

Tina tried to breath normally – she sat silent for a few minutes.

“Louise and I were always different – I guess she wasn’t as smart or as hard working as me and she got a lot of that thing that I guess a lot of younger siblings get – the “why aren’t you like your sister “ thing. I was class President and top of the class in everything and popular and one of the best sportswomen in the school. She wasn’t any of those things and she resented me for that. I was popular with the boys and she wasn’t “

“And when your father killed your boyfriend ?” That was still a phrase that sounded weird for Bette to utter – but she knew that it was a phrase that had probably lodged itself in Tina’s head for years.

“Dad was arrested and thrown into jail. Lou went nuts – screaming at me that it was all my fault “

“What about your mom – what did she do and say ? – did she know that your father was going to confront your boyfriend ?”

“She tried to stop him but that might have been guilt because she didn’t want me to be an unmarried mother. I tried to tell her that I didn’t want to keep the baby – God Bette I was only 20 when it happened.- it was an accident. The damn doctor broke every rule in the book to tell my dad – they were part of the same damn lodge”

Tina’s voice was getting louder – Bette stroked Tina’s arm – hoping to reassure her that everything would be okay. Tina paused and took a deep breath – she took several before she felt calm enough to continue.

“Dad rang the police and told them what had happened. Maybe a few years earlier he would have got away with it but there was a new state prosecutor and although he said that he never intended to kill David the fact was that it was his gun. The prosecutor said that it showed intent “

“How long did your dad get ?”

    “25 years “

“There is every chance that he is out “

Tina nodded “ I know – he’s not going to want to see me though is he ? he’s probably spent over 20 years of his life in a stinking prison cell because of me.”

Bette pulled Tina closer and kissed her hair “And you think that your sister will tell your parents that you are in New York ?”

“I don’t know – maybe I suppose but she’s not going to try and host a family reunion is she ?”

“The trial must have been horrible for you “

“It was – the defence and the newspapers portrayed me a whore -they threw everything at me – blaming me for letting down a good family man by how I had acted “

Bette felt sick at the thought of what that must feel like – to have the press painting you as something that you were not. Then she remembered how Fay Buckley had come after her and how that had made both of them feel.

“I was hung out to dry by the defence – it didn’t do any good because my dad still got the heavy sentence that he did “

“What about the baby – did you have a miscarriage ?”

“I went and had an abortion – that made everything worse when I had to tell my family what I had done. I wasn’t the same person that I am now – I didn’t have the self confidence that I do now and there was simply no one on my side. Everyone hated me – everyone thought I was a whore and I probably was”

    1. My gosh that was totally unexpected. Bette needs to make sure that Louise will and can not have access to their personal info at the school so that she nor anyone else can find their home. They, on the other hand need to know everything they can about her. What’s the possibility that Louise already knows about them. OMG, has helena had a hand in this? It reeks of her and her machinations. Oh God, I hope not. Fascinating chapter. You are the supreme Drama Queen. Thanks for posting. You would be a fantastic mystery writer, ala Agatha Christie. Love the stories she wrote.

    2. Con’t-history told and then let her crawl back under her rock and have Tina, Bette and Angie get on with their life. I wonder though if Helena did this too.

    3. A small light at the end of the tunnel I guess! Having your other stories as indicator, I believe that we didn’t finish with the shocking revelations at this one, are we? Thanks for the post Ally. I hope you can save everything for the old hard drive. Hey kitty, be nice to the person who feeds you please. We want her in a good mood! Kisses

    4. Okay that makes sense – are we waiting for the father now to stop by? One never knows with your amazing ability to twist and turn what seemed quite straightforward. Looking forward to your next post.

    5. I’m still shockes at what happened to Tina but I’m quite liking the change in dynamics a little lol. Bette is in shock but at least she’s giving Tina the space she needs as well as consoling her. Was a really deep chapter, but much needed. Pps

    6. You still have the magic touch! Their lives were too idyllic. Need a little drama. MOre L Wing, please. I need to read about Tina groveling especially after she was the cause of Bette’s former lover being killed.
