    New York Minute

    Chapter 24

    　

    Bette slipped the TV installation man a $20 bill as she escorted him from her apartment. Tina and Angie’s cold had prompted her to get a TV, DVD and cable installed in her bedroom. She had wanted it to be a surprise but there was no way that had been possible in their apartment. So she had told her girls what she was planning and why it was important for them to have a nap in Tina’s ex bedroom. She went back to her bedroom and looked at the giant plasma TV that was now their bed. She switched it on and flicked around the channels – plenty of channels that she and Tina would watch, lots of movie channels and some cartoon channels for Angie. She was pleased with everything so she went and opened the door of the second bedroom. Tina was half sitting up – Angie was sitting on her lap – she was resting against Tina’s chest. Bette smiled – the fair hair and light skin of Tina was a lovely contrast to Angie’s darker skin and curly hair. They were a beautiful sight to Bette – the two females who utterly owned her heart.

    “Hey “

    Tina looked up – she still looked tired.

    “Hey – can we look at your surprise ?”

    “Sure – hey Angel “

    Angie looked up and opened her eyes

    “Hello Bette “

    “Hey pumpkin – you want to come and see our new TV ?”

    “Yes “ Angie perked up. Bette lent across and lifted her up

    “Are you feeling any better ?”

    “Still sneezing a lot “

    “Never mind – its really cold outside so I think we should all snuggle up in bed and see what’s on our new TV “

    “You coming ?” Bette asked Tina

    “Sure “ Tina got up – her head was still swimming around but she was a little better. It did help that Bette was there to take care of her and Angie. She wasn’t sure how she would be caring for Angie if she was still a single mom. Bette’s calm and unfussy style had made such difference for all of them – Tina was very grateful.
