    Bette found herself sitting in Peggy Peabody’s office early Monday morning. The cold was still lingering and her head was pounding. This meeting, however, could not be avoided.

    Bette: Peggy, thank you for taking the time to meet with me.

    Peggy: It’s no trouble darling.

     

    Bette: Peggy, I’m just going to skip right to the reason I’m here. I have to give you my notice.

    Peggy: Ok.

    Bette:. I do want to thank you for all that you’ve done.

    Peggy gave Bette a sly smile.

    Peggy: Truth is, I knew you were leaving.

    Bette: What? How?

    Peggy: How many times do I have to tell you that I know everything.

    Bette gave her a disapproving look.

    Peggy caved.

    Peggy: There is this website that people in the industry rely on. Some of the stuff on there is pure rumor, but most is true. I think it’s TalkingBroadway.com or something like that.

    Bette: Oh, All That Chat?

    Peggy: That’s the one.

    Bette: So you read on there that I was leaving?

    Peggy: I did.

    Bette: When?

    Peggy: Last Thursday.

    Bette: I didn’t even audition until Friday.

    Peggy: What can I tell you?

    Bette shrugged.

    Bette: Are you disappointed?

    Peggy: Darling, I couldn’t expect you to stay in this role for the rest of your life. I’m happy for you, taking on such a risky project.

    Bette face contorted in confusion.

    Bette: You’ve read the script.

    Peggy: My dear Bette…I’m the secondary producer.

    Bette jumped to her feet. How could she not have known about this?

    Bette: What?

    Peggy: Miss Kennard sent me the script to read. I thought it was inspired and so I agreed to back it. Easy as that.

    Bette: And you knew who Tina was?

    Peggy: After that day you spent crying on my couch over her, how could I forget her?

    Bette: How long ago did you find out about this script?

    Peggy tapped her chin deep in thought.

    Peggy: About 6 months ago.

    Bette: And you never told me?

    Peggy: At that time, what was there to tell?

    Bette: I guess nothing. I just feel like everyone has been in on this behind my back.

    Peggy: They were.

    Bette: What?

    Peggy stood to face Bette eye to eye.

    Peggy: You had just started to feel better. None of us wanted to ruin that.

      I mean, they are making so much progress it’s going to be so hard to watch Bette go back to that time in her life, you know, the highest high and the lowest low…
      Anyway, I guess all the worry about it coming out a bit cliché got thrown out the window? You definitely have a gift there =D I know I’ll read your fic and get surprised, sad, maybe even angry, but never bored.
      I really like Bette and Tina’s relationship at this point. The way they hang on to that strong feeling they have, but don’t allow themselves to give in to that.
      Just one more thing: Al and Al rule!

The last three chapter were truly beautiful. Taking it nice and easy, they’ll get there I know, and I also know your going to entertain us as only you can along the way.       i loved this chapter. it was getting back in the comedy groove which i never tire of. a trust weekend? makes me picture people in a circle chanting koom-by-ya or something. which is a really funny image if ur in my mind (plz take a note u never wanna go there)

      also the great peggy peabody gets her information not from CIA spies as i suspected but from a website. I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING! so of course i loved it.

      This Peggy Peabody is such a great character… I always liked a lot her special and precious relationship with Bette. Thanks for bringing her back !

      “Once she passed through these doors, there would be no going back.” Now that would be a perfect ad for your story, my Flair lady !! But yes : just change “she” with “you” and it would marvelously depict your readers’ endless tortures’ road… As written on Dante’s Inferno’s gate : “lasciate ogni speranza, voi che entrate” ! (no, no, my name isn’t Marina, why do you ask that ?)

      Tina, the new soup chef ! How I love these winked allusions to the show… so funny ! (By the way, I’m still waiting my chicken soup, Miss ! Did you book plane’s ticket ?? Hurry !)

      Now, tell me why I got the strange feeling that Alex, Alice, Daphne and Melanie will be chaperons and perfect alibi for an unofficial “trust weekend” for two ? I wonder why I thought that… (lol)
      This Melanie is something ! I love Bette’s funny reaction between her and Tina. Well, well, I really cannnot wait for this Jersey trust weekend now…

      Once more – and I guess you guessed I’ll say that ! – I adore the way you depict Bette and Tina’s interraction with such a subtle touch… It really transform every “innocent” details into so meaningful ones. Powerful.
      And the way you began this rehearsal with Tina’s restrainted want for a hug to end it with the sweet release of it ! That simple “event” gave me such a thrill…
      With you, the inevitable unconfessed, shy, long-lasting courtship will be quite a journey ! A true torment of Tantalus, no doubt about that… And yes, it will be just the most exciting, erotic way to bring our scared but withdraw-symptomed lovers together !     37. Flair, I just really really really love this story, the pace, the twists, Alex and Alice (that soup whore comment cracked me up!).. its so bittersweet it aches my heart at times.
