No Good Deed Goes Unpunished Chapter 26

Tina stepped back giving the once strong brunette the air she needed.

Tina: Is there anything I can do?

    Bette thought for moment.

Bette: Could you grab my coat in the other room?

    Tina: Where are you going?

Bette: I think I have been fairly calm through all of this and as my reward I need a cigarette.

Tina: Is that really wise Bette? I mean Sara’s in the other room dying of cancer

Tina didn’t even get the chance to finish her sentence, before Bette stormed past her.

    Tina: Bette, wait!

Bette bee lined toward her room, grabbing her jacket and the pack of cigarettes hidden in the front pocket. As she made her way back to the front door, Tina stepped into her path.

    Bette: Tina, please move.

Tina: No Bette. Storming off won’t make this go away.

Bette: Maybe not, but right now I truly don’t need to be lectured and that’s exactly what you were about to do.

Tina opened her mouth to speak but was cut off.

Bette: Don’t Tina. Let me deal my way and you can deal yours. I don’t want to fight with you so please just move.

Tina had never seen Bette like this. It was like she had shut down and Tina was starring into a pair of hollow brown eyes.

    Tina’s voice softened.

    Tina: Ok.

Bette didn’t look back. She breezed past the blonde and right out the front door.

It wasn’t her intention to speak to Tina that way, but after the stress she had been under the last thing she needed was Tina standing on some soap box.

Bette reached into her pocket and removed the pack of cigarettes. She placed the cool paper between her lips and prepared to inhale as she sparked the lighter.

Bette: What the ***** am I doing?

Bette tossed the unlit cigarette into the street and watched as the cool breeze sent it rolling down the steep hill.

Bette slowly sat down on the curb attempting to steady herself.

    Bette: ***** you Melvin!

Bette dropped her head into her hands and let one single streak down her face and burn her skin.

Alice stood in the bay window looking out toward the brunette.

Alice: Hey Alex, come look at this.

Alex made his way next to Alice and followed her gaze to the street.

    Alex: What the

Alice: Looks like Bette has hit her breaking point.

Alex: I should go talk to her.

Alice: I think we should just let her take some time. This little break down might be just what she needs right now. Besides if you go out there she will put up some kind of a front so she doesn’t look vulnerable. You know that.

Alex: But she shouldn’t be alone.

Alice: Give her ten minutes. If she isn’t back by then, I give you permission to go and be her knight in glittering armor.

Alex gave Alice a sideways glance.

Alex: Was that a crack at my sexuality?

    Alice paused for a moment.

Alice: Yes, I do believe it was.

    Alex: It was good.

Alice: Really? I thought maybe it was a little too obvious

Alex: No it was just bitter and angry enough, the perfect mix of ***** attributes.

    Alice: Touch my friend. Touch.

Alex slipped his arm around the blonde’s waist.

Alice: It’s so strange to see Bette like this.

Alex: I know. For a while there I thought she was void of all emotion.

Alice: Maybe our little girl is growing up.

The two stood in the window and watched silently as the strongest person they knew quickly fell to pieces.

Can i peel you like a banana now? heh, ya i can in t-minus one and one half hours!Forever and Since Always,BridgetP.S. we should be verizon mascots.”Did I lose you?
