No Good Deed Goes Unpunished ( Sequel to Can’t Help Falling In Love) Chapter 3

    Tina: Hello?

    Her voice was
sleepy and slightly confused. Bette said nothing.

    Tina: Hello? Who
    is this?

    Bette: It’s me
    Tina.

    It had been a
long time since Tina had heard that voice. The same voice that had been keeping
    her up nights.

    Tina: Hi Bette.

    Bette: Tina.

    Tina: I’m glad
you called me back. I wasn’t sure that would.

    Bette: to be
    honest, I considered it.

    Tina: To be
honest, it’s nice to hear your voice.

    Bette: I really
think it best that we skip the pleasantries.

    Tina’s jaw
dropped at just how curt Bette could be.

    Tina: Ok, then
down to business. What did you think of the play?

    Bette: Does it
    matter?

    Tina: Yes.

    Bette: Why? If I
said I didn’t like it would it change anything?

    Tina: I guess
not. So I am assuming that I will not be getting your consent then?

    Bette: Don’t
    assume anything Tina.

    Tina hated
hearing Bette call her by that name. She had thought she would always be “T”.

    Tina: I’m sorry.

    Bette: For what?

    Tina: For
    assuming.

    Bette: Oh I
thought you were going to apologize for something else.

    Tina: Bette…

    Bette: So about
this script, I am going to give you permission. After all, it’s your art, who
am I to tell you what to do with it?

    Tina: Oh my god,
Bette, I can’t thank you enough.

    Bette could care
less about Tina’s “I’m sorrys” and “thank yous”.

    Bette: Just 2
    things I want changed.

    Tina braced
    herself for the fall.

    Bette: I want the
title changed, and the names! That’s all I ask.

    Tina: I already
    changed the names.

    Bette: Oh?

    Tina: I had no
intention of keeping our names in there. I just figured the names would make
you angry enough to contact me.

    Bette: Oh good,
so I fell into another one of your traps.

    Tina: What do you
    mean another?

    Bette: You know
damn well what the first trap was. If you had every intention of going back to
***** Arizona then why even pursue me? Why let me fall so hard for you?

    Bette’s harsh
words stung Tina, breaking through the barrier she had created around herself.

    Tina: I don’t
think we should discuss this on the phone.

    Bette: I don’t
think you should have a say where or how we have this discussion. You’ve
already made enough decisions of my behalf, don’t you think?

    Tina: Jesus,
Bette. What do you want me to say?

    Bette was silent.
Even she had no idea what she wanted at this point.

    Tina: Bette, I
    want to see you.

    Bette: I’m sorry
    but I can’t.

    Tina: You can’t
because you’re too busy? Or you can’t because you don’t want to?

    Bette: I can’t.
That’s all you need to know.

    Tina held back
the tears that threatened to spill at any second.

Bette: Once you send me the revised script
with the changes, I’ll sign off on it.

    Tina wasn’t ready
to hang up the phone. She tried desperately to change the subject and clear the
    air.

    Tina: I’m sorry I
    never called.

    Bette: I thought
I made it perfectly clear that I didn’t want to be your friend Tina.

    Tina: You did,
    but I thought with time…

    Bette
    interjected.

    Bette: You
    thought wrong.

    Tina: Alex told
    me you were seeing someone.

Bette: I am. I heard the same of you.

    Tina: Yeah, I am.

    An uncomfortable
silence fell between the two until Bette had enough.

    Bette: Tina, I
don’t want to do this with you.

    Tina: Do what?

    Bette: catch up,
be friends, pretend nothing happened, because it did.

    Tina said
    nothing.

    Bette: I have to
go. Just send me the script.

    Tina: Will I ever
    see you?

    Bette: You know
the answer to that question Tina. You did this to yourself.

    With that Bette
hung up the phone and left the bedroom. She took one more look at her
girlfriend and made her way to the living room. With Tina on her mind it would
be unfair to share a bed with Sara.

    1. I love this one, anxious to see how you will work this out…all the regret, anger and the new partners to get Bette and Tina back together…because that HAS to happen, right? Oh, now I’m in a panic…..you will get them together, yes? LOL….can’t wait to read the next chapter.

    2. damm looks like Bette’s surprise party will be a surpirse party after all, cause you know who alex is bring. I really really like this story, I guess I like when B and T have back bones and aren’t all mushy.

    3. Among the many things I love about this story, that you ended the first in blazing hot Arizona summer and started the second in freezing winterish New York is brilliant. The locale reflects the emotional state of their relationship. Brilliant!

      Keep going…

    4. YOU AMAZE ME!! I just finished the first 3 chapters and I have to tell you: You have the best ideas!!! Everything was great (well of course Tina and Bette could be together again) I am excited to see where this story goes!! Thanks For Writing!!

    5. Absolutely great. I hope with time…maybe they get back together??? Oh well. Love this story almost more than the previous one ;) keep it up and post real soon, liketwo seconds ago… 5 stars for you:)

    6. man I feel like crying, you gotta get them back to each other, although I can tell it’ll be one long hell of a road, for Bette especially. Are you gonna be nice and post another chapter today???? and are you gonna be even nicer and NOT leave us hangin all weekend????????? TOTALLY LOVIN IT….TOTALLY!!!!

    7. “I always have a reason for doing things… always.”
Oh yes, I NEVER doubt about that !! Knowing you are the all-mighty deus ex machina who already knows how events will go, it’s a fact that just brings a great anticipated thrill each time a new update bright on the stories’ list !

You’re amazing, I mean it : through the first part of your novel (but yes !), we reached pinacle of romantism and passion. Then, the finale was an incredibly powerful symbol of your style, mixing the most intense loving emotions with an awful heartbreaking cliffhanger !
And now, at the beginning of this SO promising new part of the saga, you brang our poor readers’ hearts to the lowest position ever.
God, that’s just the ideal way to make us beg you and sigh about the current worries and – above all – this GIANT question mark in mind !!!
I confess it : I’m quite dead seeing our beloved two in such a painful position… BUT I’m also delightfully tortured, waiting for all the next chapters you’ll cook for us !

      Few words more…
I love the way Bette is honest with herself and the feelings she so carefully masked for Tina at the phone, recognize them enough to know how unfair it would be to go in bed with her current girlfriend now.
Of course it will bring a pretty uneasy talk with Sara at the morning, but that was a great thing to do.

For me, it’s obvious that Bette don’t wish something more than meeting Tina again, but the reason she refused (for the moment, at least) was only because she must guess how harder it would be to mask her feelings eyes in eyes. At phone, of course, everybody is soooo brave and strong.
In “reality”, it’s such an other test…

Wonderful sequel, my Flair lady. I LOVE your story so much…
That’s truly the one that touches my heart on the deepest way here…

*** THANK YOU SO MUCH ***

    8. be angry… let it out… make up… make out… make love. ah.. it’ll eventually turn that way after we pass all the drama. hey.. am still on for the ride and lovin it!

    9. is Tina crazy???? she talk to Bette like never heppened she broke her heart and now she wants to see her?..Bette loved her so much and still love..i hope Tina be able to make it up with her and now its her time to do it on her knees i´m sad:o(

    10. GOD!!!!!! Suprises, surprises. I love when B and T have this rough edge to them. It makes it real, but my heart aches. Before I was sad they werent together but after reading the break up and this, I have tears in my eyes just like when Ross and Rachel broke up. Damn. When you have this much passion wether it good or bad between two ppl the outcome can be…amazing!!! I hoe we see that. Tell it like it is in the real world honey, dont dress it up. Excellenty job.

    11. The characters seem to have matured a lot since their split. Although I think I can u/stand where Tina was coming from when she broke it off with Bette, it really hurts to see Bette. I feel it for Bette. She worked so hard at trying to accept herself for Tina…to be happy with who she was at her core. To finally feel accepted unconditioanlly and then have that security pull away is almost crippling (trust me i know personally). Bette was vulnerable before Tina. She trusted her and Tina really let her down. The love is still there. At least we know Tina still wants to have some sort of connection. The problem is, how is she going to make Bette see past her fears and realise that she too wants the same?

    12. Good to see Bette taking a little control this time around. Tina lead her by the nose last time, now Bette is the strong one. Nice change. But of course, when they get eye to eye, who knows?!? Only you!

    13. i dont have enough time to say all i wanna say, but girl this just keeps getting better, Bette is still so in love with Tina, and yup i guess Alex will bring Tina with him to the surprise party..

    14. wow bette was harsh but tina was harsh. im liking this but… i know what you can and have done to us. so i wait like everyone else for the next installment. great job

    15. You have go to post soon. I’m sitting here crying like a baby..hopefully..part of it is PMS but most of it is your wonderful writing. Can you post more tonight, morning, afternoon..

    16. well, tina in everything we and every decison we make there’s always a price we have to pay!!!! you deserve what’s being thrown at you. now, go and work hard to get your woman!!! goodluck

    17. I’m so exasperated. I’m angry they didn’t get together in the last series. I’m aggravated Tina is being so thoughtless and immature. And…I’m irate over the fact that Bette’s birthday has been ruined by Tina with her selfish call. Your writing is awesome… you certainly have my emotions on high alert.

    18. Tina hurt Bette so badly. That she doesnt want to see her. Its so easy to say things to people over the phone, If you are eye the person can see how you feel. Bette was smart not to see Tina right now. Plus love that Bette didn’t get in bed with Sara, with Tina on her mind.Loved the first, falling in love with this THANKS

    19. Ok Flair…I’m all caught up, phew. Hmmmm…you’re so good at this – I’m loving it.

I’m absolutely in love with Bette, therefore I’m baised…so make Tina pay…hahaha. Thanks again women! :)

    20. Wow so it was a ploy to get back into Bette’s life. What a rough road these two have before them. Bette still has it bad and it looks like Tina does too Yeah
