Oasis Part 6
We walked down the hall to reception, and I noticed that nothing had changed. The whole place was stuck in a time bubble, things could come in and out but everything else remained the same. Butterflies started in my stomach, it felt like I had gone back in time.
My palms started to sweat and my hand shake as the adrenaline pumped around my body. I felt the need to run down the hall and run away from this room, from what it represented and what it could mean.
I looked around the room, realising with it being so early there wasn’t many people here. Does sickness happen on a timetable?
I heard the murmur of voices nearby, but I wasn’t paying attention to what was being said until Dana took hold of my hand squeezing it. “The doctor will only be a minute – let’s sit.”
She kindly lead me to a bench seat. It was obvious that she knew of my apprehension at being here and I was thankful for her presence. For the warm hand and kind smile and the fact that she remembered that the plastic chairs made me feel uncomfortable.
“Ms Porter,” the doctor called me. I stood, and looked back at Dana who look confidently smiled at me.
“You’re being called.” She said, waving me off. I was tempted to ask her to come in with me, which is juvenile. I didn’t need her to hold my hand, when knowing she was here with me, for me was enough.
**********
I had been sent off for some blood tests and an X-Ray, I wasn’t sure what he was looking for, but whatever it was I was becoming less and less sure it was something harmless.
I was always grateful that they had a radiologist onsite so I didn’t have to wait long, make another appointment or trudge around town.
“Bette,” the doctor started, drawing me out of my thoughts. “you’ve spent a lot of time overseas, and while it could be possible that you picked up something I don’t think it’s likely. You were up to date with all your shots, and your symptoms are very flu related, except for the heaviness on your chest.”
Standing up he walked over to the light box, flicking it on. “I suspected that you might have pneumonia, and as you can see here,” He circled a darker area on my X-Ray, like that would somehow mean something to me. “There is shading the indicates inflammation on your lung which is caused by an infection.” He put up another X-Ray, circling another slightly larger shaded area with his finger, “as you can see it is apparent in both lungs. You have double pneumonia.”

Hi, Deean! We are glad that the elbow is healing nicely, although slowly. Hope those painkillers help you to be more at ease. As for the story, it is getting more and more interesting. Now we have Tina coming into the stage and we can see lots of things coming in. Please continue to amaze us with your talent, as you have. PPS Hugs and kisses on both your cheeks. – Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick)
Well you got the witch Jenny, and Our Tina. Dana is so sweet and gentle. thanks Hope your elbow geat better.
i actually smile when i read tina walked in! i’ve liked this from the start, i love how you write the girls’ friendships, but now it’ll get really interesting…let the games begin!! pps
So glad that Bette has only to do battle with pneumonia, that can be handled. And the arrival of my most favorite and beautiful blonde. Yeah! Let’s see how this will turn out. I noticed there was no electrical current between them when they shook hands, ahh, I guess they will have to work on that. Loving it. PPS
Hello Tina! I’m glad Bette is OK (at least for now, I don’t think I’m gonna trust you there Deean!!). Great story, PPS.
Doing a little happy dance: ) Tina has arrived. pps
Happy to see Tina in this story!!! Glad Bette is going to be OK!!! Thanks PPS
Hello My Beautiful Dee… hmmmmm I am not sure I believe it is something as common as “pneumonia” being overseas offers so many foreign viruses and illnesses to become infected with and I’m also concerned that there is something more psychological going on in the mind of our Beautiful Bette… So there it is… there is the DRAMA that one might expect when someone introduces both the snake “Jenny” and the Blonde that is “Tina” hehe… I was wondering when you were going to sneak her in there and I was almost certain it was going to be within the creative capacity… maybe just maybe we will see some traveling going on here… maybe Bette and Tina might make a side trip to Bette’s Oasis and work on this story that Bette is so passionate to tell… and Dana seems to have some layers to work through… she seems so much like that Dana we know and love she has a certain naivety and a certain lack of confidence that we are all to familiar with… hmmmmm I just wonder if and who she might shack up with… maybe Helena… that would be different… LMAO… yeah that might be fun… you my most amazing friend continue to weave with intricacies and delicate maneuvering threads of emotional prowess… keep kicking serious butt… love and hugs, JC (Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels and ever loving Cuzzie to the ever talented Eunichick)
OK OK, Tina has appeared!!!!! But are you tricking us about Bette’s illness? Such drama, such drama. I’m suffering here. Suffering, I tell ya. PPS.
Goodbye Tina! Hey I can always hope! Now, about this illness of Bette’s. I don’t think it is going to be as simple as it sounds on the surface. There seems to be references to previous illness, which leads me to believe that Bette knows what is wrong with her, but if she knows, the Dr should soon know too since she has taken the tests, and then for a minute it sounded like she doesn’t know! yes I definitely think something happened to Dana to make her like that, she seems almost emotionally crippled. All these questions and many more will soon be answered..especially, IS BETTE STILL ALIVE!!
Hi Spumoni, nice to see you!
