“Is she pretty ?” Pete asked
“Tina thinks so “
“Tina might be ever so slightly biased “
Matthew looked round and saw Tina walking along the sidewalk holding hands with a brunette. He was about to say something to Pete who was playing on his phone. Something made his stay silent – he just wanted a few seconds to take this scene in for himself. Tina was walking along and even from a short distance he could see that she was laughing. She looked so carefree and happy – a sight that every parent wants to see in their child. He turned his attention to the famous Bette. She was taller than Tina by a few inches and even though he was biased and he thought Tina was just beautiful – well there was no way he could deny that Bette wasn’t anything other than stunning. She walked so elegantly and her long dark hair was loose. Tina saw her father and waved. He waved back and nudged Pete
“Take a look away from your messages – here are Tina and her girlfriend”
Pete looked up – Matthew knew that he was as nervous as him. Pete adored Tina and he was the adult she went to when she couldn’t wrap her other three parents round her little finger. It had been difficult at first to persuade Emma and Kate that they could trust the two of them with their precious daughter rather than with just him but gradually they had worked on the mothers – Tina adored all four adults she had grown up with. They all just wanted to know that Tina was happy and it was pretty obvious that from just looking at her that she was. Matthew looked at the young couple as they got closer. Tina was wearing a thin pair of light cotton trousers and a thin shirt – he noticed that she also wasn’t wearing a bra – that was a new departure for his daughter. Bette was wearing dark cotton trousers and a white collar-less shirt – she looked much older than 17.
“Dad – Pete”
Matthew grinned – just seeing his daughter always made his day brighter. She released Bette’s hand and ran the few feet over to him and he hugged her and swung her round.
“You look lovely darling “
“Thanks “
He put her down and she jumped at Pete who hugged her
“God Tina – you are just getting more beautiful “
“Thanks Pete – so do you “ she joked
Tina turned and looked at Bette who had been watching the greetings with a smile. She went and took hold of Bette’s hand and dragged her closer
“This is my beautiful and funny and smart girlfriend Bette who I just love so much. Bette – this is my dad and his partner “

Thanks for the update as it was simply wonderful. The way you write about the details of their relationship and the timing of the different events of their journey with everything that it involves including all the parents is fantastic! Keep up the awesome work! This story is one of the best!
Wow. Even the parents that Tina *doesn’t* live with get to greet them as a couple! Bette must think Melvin is a complete and utter monster. I can see why Emma and Kate would be in on letting the girls keep their relationship hush-hush – they perhaps don’t like Melvin, based on views that he had when he was a young man, even though he’s apparently grown out of them and changed now – but why is Rosemary in on keeping secrets from her husband? If he’s that bad that it’s worth keeping secrets about their *only child* – that he “dotes on” – why is she still married to him? Is he that bad of a father? Is he that bad of a man? To be in collusion with other “adults” is baffling – especially when your daughter being happy and in love is something to be CELEBRATED, not hidden as if they’re doing something wrong! It’s okay not to like someone – there’s no law that says you have to be friends with the people your spouse is friends with. The adults either need to get together and hash it out, or they need to let the whole thing go. It’s ancient history and Rosemary is letting the relationship in her FAMILY, between her husband and daughter, be compromised over something that doesn’t matter anymore. She should be encouraging Bette to talk to Melvin… after all, if Bette and Tina stay together, he’s going to be gaining another daughter someday. (Or would they keep a future wedding a secret too? Secret kids?) Argh! Lol. Rant over. What is Bette going to tell her parents about the upcoming weekend she’s about to spend out of the house? She is still a minor, right? She can’t just come and go as she pleases for days at a stretch in a city like New York without letting her parents know, so that should be interesting. It’s maybe the opening she needs, because the whole thing has gone on long enough. Anyway… thanks for the post. I actually do look for this story pretty regularly. Cheers!
