“She will probably be in the Park running – just thought I would get a work out in before the heat really gets too much “
“Yes it was sweltering yesterday “
“Tough case ?” Tina indicated the case file
Emma shrugged “ Complicated more than tough “
“There’s a difference ?”
“Yes “
“Did you enjoy the paella last night ?”
“It was delicious – she is some cook – can you cook that now ?”
“I think I probably could “
“Well I will be ordering more chorizo and prawns because that was one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Your young woman is a very talented chef”
“She can do pretty much anything she wants to “
Emma nodded and looked at Tina who did look sleepy but happy
“You two are really into one another aren’t you ?”
Tina smiled “Yeah – its new and intense and its great”
“Tell me something “
“Sure “
“Why has Bette not told Melvin ?”
Tina put her bag down and sat down – she took an apple from the bowl in the middle of the table and took a bite.
“I think if I was anyone else but your daughter she would have”
“You think its just because you are a Kennard ?”
“I don’t know. I have met him a few times and he’s been fine with me. Sweet and not as grumpy as he pretends to be. He dotes on her and he’s very proud of her. But I think maybe she just sees that he is proud of her achievements and wouldn’t really understand if she talked to him about her feelings. I think he would take it better than she thinks”
“Speaking from experience my dad took longer to deal with my sexuality – my mother was great – that was the same with Kate. How did your father take it ?”
Tina took another bite of her apple
“He was fantastic “ Tina said “ I gave him the photocopy of my report card and he really loved that and then I told him about Bette. We are going to brunch with him and Pete tomorrow”
Emma smiled “I did wonder that maybe he would think you weren’t ready for it”
“No – he was great. I may as well tell you – they are going away next weekend and he says he would like us to dog sit “

Thanks for the update as it was simply wonderful. The way you write about the details of their relationship and the timing of the different events of their journey with everything that it involves including all the parents is fantastic! Keep up the awesome work! This story is one of the best!
Wow. Even the parents that Tina *doesn’t* live with get to greet them as a couple! Bette must think Melvin is a complete and utter monster. I can see why Emma and Kate would be in on letting the girls keep their relationship hush-hush – they perhaps don’t like Melvin, based on views that he had when he was a young man, even though he’s apparently grown out of them and changed now – but why is Rosemary in on keeping secrets from her husband? If he’s that bad that it’s worth keeping secrets about their *only child* – that he “dotes on” – why is she still married to him? Is he that bad of a father? Is he that bad of a man? To be in collusion with other “adults” is baffling – especially when your daughter being happy and in love is something to be CELEBRATED, not hidden as if they’re doing something wrong! It’s okay not to like someone – there’s no law that says you have to be friends with the people your spouse is friends with. The adults either need to get together and hash it out, or they need to let the whole thing go. It’s ancient history and Rosemary is letting the relationship in her FAMILY, between her husband and daughter, be compromised over something that doesn’t matter anymore. She should be encouraging Bette to talk to Melvin… after all, if Bette and Tina stay together, he’s going to be gaining another daughter someday. (Or would they keep a future wedding a secret too? Secret kids?) Argh! Lol. Rant over. What is Bette going to tell her parents about the upcoming weekend she’s about to spend out of the house? She is still a minor, right? She can’t just come and go as she pleases for days at a stretch in a city like New York without letting her parents know, so that should be interesting. It’s maybe the opening she needs, because the whole thing has gone on long enough. Anyway… thanks for the post. I actually do look for this story pretty regularly. Cheers!
