Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 13
Chapter 13: Leap into the darkness…is there a light ahead? (Bette, Christina and Alicia had a night from hell and Tina visits the Porter mansion)
Place: Orange County, CA
Year: 1885
(Previously) Elizabeth’s mind belatedly registered some disturbance and she slowly turned away from the window, searching the studio for the source of the noise. Christina had already put the miniature away, fastening it around her neck. She wanted it to be a surprise present.
They finally noticed the tray that Alicia left for them and decided to take a break. It was almost time for Christina to go home anyway and they planned to take the horses. It was more for Christina’s benefit than anything because she felt a little weary, being pregnant for almost 3 months now.
“Well, the art festival is almost here and then we can take a long and deserved rest,” Elizabeth said, touching Christina’s hand and running her fingers over her pale skin. The contrast of their skin was striking, as if they were complimenting each other. They looked into each other’s eyes and without words understood that there was a need for them to talk and also desire to hold on to the mutual feelings that they had developed.
“We’ll talk on the way,” Elizabeth said softly, gently brushing her fingers through Christina’s blond wavy tresses. She put one rebellious lock behind her ear and lightly caressed her cheek. Both trembled at this simple touch and without saying another word, Elizabeth pulled Christina into warm embrace, clinging to her tightly. The moment seemed to last forever when they finally separated and Elizabeth went to her bedroom to change for the ride.

Alicia was re-arranging Elizabeth’s wardrobe in the closet when she was startled by her mistress, who came in to get dressed for her horseback riding this late afternoon.
“Funny,” Elizabeth laughed, finding Alicia all tangled up in her abundant supply of dresses, scarves and veils, “Today is October 19, so it means exactly three months ago I found you in the same position in the same closet doing exact same thing. Time flies, doesn’t it?”
“Yep, time flies. Three months seems like three days,” Alicia replied absentmindedly. All of a sudden her face reflected a state of panic. She turned pale as if she was about to faint.

Hey B&TF, you know how much I love this story and I’m always waiting patiently for an update. Now with this revelation you’re going to have to hurry up and post soon because this is getting good by the second. Somehow I missed this story when you first posted so I have no idea of what is yet to come. So please, don’t leave us waiting too long! xx

The blast of light where Elizabeth and Alicia were standing, was that someone being shot or the two of them disappearing into the future? Okay, I have lost my brain and can’t seem to find it.
I feel so silly because I got so weapped up in what was happening that my heart was pounding. I still am so impressed at your skill in weaving all of the threads together.
Once upon a time, a friend and I bought an antebellum house that was barely standing (It had a swimming pool on the property with antique mosaic tile we were interested in… crazy story… let’s just say we where young and had crazy ideas, lol)… Anyway! I wish I had paid more attention to the closets than that pool, LOL! I just love how you’ve brought Elizabeth through the closet to the twenty-first century!!! I’m all about a touch of elegance from the past within a wardrobe *wink*
i woke up this morning to the thought of the ride back when elizabeth was shot and remembered that its sunday and there should be another chapter… so imagine the smile when i saw that indeed there was one and longer that the last one too :) thank you for a great story cant wait for the next chapter…
LMAO at Sunkissed’s comment, ‘I wish I had paid more attention to the closets than that pool”… LOL! Anyway, B&TF, that was just WOW!!! That chapter was amazing! So tense and filled with the triggers of emotion, and angst, and fear, and confusion, and most of all anticipation for more!… I had thought that they would meet through the phone (with a 21st century’s Elizabeth) or through a telepathic experience.. But, no… Bette/Elizabeth is finally here! They are finally together, well at least into the same dimension. I’m guessing that it will take a little more time for them to properly meet, but I’m delighted already that we (you) had them see each other for the first time… Now, I’m really curious about this mystery about Elizabeth’s death, which was in fact Christina’s?… Anyhow, that was a great turn of events, certainly created by a brillant mind! Wow B&TF, you are full of surprises. I thought that Bette and Tina would meet as people in present day, but you have Elizabeth time travelling forward. This is great and really intriguing. This is really a good story and I hope you update again soon!
