parenting: the teenage years part 10 ( sequel to girl episode)

“Tuesday, 10:15, on the corner of Sutton and Vanity…5th floor…” was all she said to me that morning.

And that was her goodbye as she left the house with Evan close on her heels.

I contemplated on whether or not going into work that morning but knew in the end I had to make an appearance…at least to show everyone that I was indeed still the director of the CAC. Most of all Franklin.

“James , I have an appointment later this morning so please clear my schedule for the rest of the afternoon. I dont know how long Ill be.”

“Uh, okay… heres your messages from the last two days, your coffee, the catalogs you requested last week… you have a call on line two and uh… good morning,” my assistant smiled.

“Good morning, James,” I smiled back, ” whos on line two?”

“They asked me not to tell you.”

    “Hmmm, Okay.”

James backed out of my office.

    “Bette Porter,” I spoke.

“Hey Porter, where you been the last couple of days?”

“Taking care of my family, Alice.”

    “How is the fam?”

“As good as can be expected,” I answered.

“The Evan situation hasnt gotten any better I take it?”

“No…its uh..improved. She doesnt hate Tina anymore. Now she only hates me.”

“Shes suppose to hate you… youre her mother.”

    “But…” I began to whine.

“Ya know Bette, I think, and dont take this the wrong way, but I think Evan is jealous of your relationship with Tina.”

“Youve got to be kidding me, Alice.”

“No, no. Hear me out. Youve heard of the Oedipus ( forgive me for the spelling, I forgot how to spell the name) complex.”

“Alice, isnt that pertaining to boys?”

“I know that… I was just making sure youve heard of it. Jeez… I think you have a case of the Electra complex but reversed.”

“You think my daughter is in love with Tina.”

“Yeah… think about it. She was a mammas girl until you brought Tina home and then it was all about Tina. She couldnt get enough of Tina. She fell in love with Tina like we all did. But I think she took it further than that. She really loves Tina.”

    “Al, this is sick.”

    1. WOW..that was powerfull…i have to agree with Alice in part this is not an “Edipo and Jocasta” thing BUT Evan have been most of your life only with Tina now thats why such a connection and in the other hand Tina is lost cuzz she could handle Evan by herself without any help…and i hope Bette finally undertand that and try to be there for her family before she loose them and now she has no job…oh boy DRAMA…lol..amazing chapter i love it..post real real soon :-)

    2. damm Tee, drama and more drama, I think alice might be right, or maybe evan is just scared of losing her mom. Either way I love this story, glad to see you posted a update of this side.
