    Peculiar Hesitation – Chapter 7

No, about today. Dana stood up, Does my nose look bad?

    Its not crooked or anything.

Ok. Dana picked up her overnight bag that she kept packed for tennis tournaments. Ill uh go with Tina.

You dont have to leave, you live here, too.

I know you dont want me here. I can hear it in your voice.

Youre right, I dont. But Im not cruel either. Im not going to let you bleed to death. Now lay down and try to stop the bleeding. Do you want some water?

Dana shook her head and laid down on the bed propping the pillows under her head. Alice went to the bathroom to change out of her dress. She stood in front of the mirror and stared at her reflection. It looked different. The person staring back wasnt her. It wasnt the Alice she knew. She glanced at her razor and wondered if she would feel it cut her skin. She could feel the sharp blade, but was too afraid to press down any harder. She wanted to draw blood, but the idea of it hurting like a paper cut frightened her. She shook her head. She couldnt think why she was having these thoughts. She turned her attention back to her dress. Alice struggled to undo the zipper that got stuck. She grew frustrated and banged her hands on the counter the sobs filling the quiet of the apartment. Dana got up and ran to the bathroom, finding Alice curled up on the floor crying. Whats wrong?

I cant get it off. The damn zipper!

Alright, alright. Ill get it. Turn around. Alice reluctantly got up and turned around letting Dana attempt to unzip her dress. What did you do to this? Dana growled as she pulled the zipper. Its really stuck.

    No *****, Sherlock.

Dana tried again holding the top of the zipper with one hand and yanking down with the other, the zipper flew down. Alice caught the dress as it began to fall, folding her arms across her chest thus holding the dress up. Danas fingers lightly grazed down Alices back before she moved away from Alice. Youre free, she joked. Dana headed back to the bed, her job done.

Alice followed her into the bedroom, I gotta make a call.

Dana looked at her strangely. Ok.

She picked up her phone and couldnt think of who to call. Shane was too involved and she was afraid Shane would bring her to a therapist or put her in a psych ward for a few days if she called all upset. She thought of talking to Dana but imagined that it defeated the purpose since Dana seemed to be the cause of her breakdown. That left Bette or Tina. Tina would mother her and take care of her and Bette would probably smack her on the back of the head and tell her to get a grip. No, Bette would actually sit and listen and know what to do. She called Bette. Her hand was shaking as she held the phone to her ear. Bette, its me.

Bettes posture became much more rigid hearing Alices voice. Alice, do you need something?

Bette, she pleaded unsure of what to say.

    Are you ok?

    I think Im freaking out.

Ok. Is anybody there with you now?

Danas here. Tina left not too long ago. I cant think. I just feel like Im losing my goddamn mind.
