    Perfect

Bette gently caressed the cheek of the baby in her arms, finding it endlessly charming how such a tiny creature could behold an amount of love Bette couldn’t believe possible.

"Aren’t you ever going to stop staring at her?" Tina asked from her bed.

"She’s amazing," Bette said softly, standing up to join Tina on the bed. Gently, carefully, she handed Angelica to Tina. "That’s our baby."

"She’s our baby." Tina smiled, gently brushing at her baby girl’s curly brown hair.

Bette glanced at Angelica, then at Tina. "I’ve started moving your things to the house."

"Okay." Tina smiled up at Bette. "She’s going to love the nursery."

    "T," Bette hesitated.

Tina turned to her, and their child, so in tune with her mother, also turned her innocent gaze to Bette.

Bette took a deep breath. "I found your baby journal."

Tina looked at her questioningly, then glanced back down at Angelica. "Oh."

Bette sat down on the bed, near Tina’s feet. "I’m sorry."

"It’s not important." Tina gave her a weak smile. "You’re here now."

    "But I should’ve been there then." Bette sighed. "I should’ve noticed. I should’ve…"

Tina took a deep breath. "I should’ve told you."

Bette glanced down at her hands. "I hope you don’t mind that I read it."

"I made it for you." Tina said softly, her gaze remaining on the gift that was in her arms. "The plan was that when I told you, you’d read the journal, and you’d feel like you didn’t really miss out. Even when we were apart, I wanted to tell you everything. Everything I couldn’t tell you, I wrote down."

"But even when we were together." Bette laughed bitterly. "I was so wrapped up in myself I didn’t even notice the smallest details. Morning sickness. Cravings. No wonder it took you forever to tell me."

Tina exhaled. "I guess I owe you an apology for that."

    "What?" Bette inquired.

"Helena. The way you found out." Tina glanced at Bette. "I should’ve told you right away."

"Well, I didn’t exactly deserve that courtesy." Bette admitted. "But it would’ve been nice."

    1. Closure. And a future.
      Thank you.

P.S.: We all know why Angelica was scrunching up her little face.
Somebody, hand Bette and Tina a Newborn Pamper. Ha!

    2. What a great story…I know that you said it would be a stand-alone, but I wonder if you could turn the baby book Tina wrote for Bette into a chapter story…just my humble thoughts….

    3. Tiff,
For me the title says it all.
Thanks for this little segue from Reprise and for giving me the missing moments from ‘Lacuna’; The Kennard-Porter family united.
