“What the hell is that Tina?” Stacey Kennard said with a face of pure disgust, “you can’t wear that dress! You look fat and ugly.”
“But mom,” 10 year-old Tina said meekly, “I like this dress.”
“Take it off right now! You look horrible!” Stacey snapped, “take off that fucking dress, and tomorrow I’ll take to Dr. Thompson, we’ll start you on a diet.”
“A diet? Mom, I’m not fat!” Tina protested tears filling her eyes.
“Are you kidding me? You’re a fucking cow! If you wore black, you’d look like Free Willy!” Stacey laughed cruelly not even flinching when Tina dropped down to her knees in tears, “don’t cry, it’ll only make you look uglier.”
I look in the mirror and I don’t like what I see. I don’t even know how anybody even became attracted to me, let alone a goddess like Bette Porter. She sees things in me that I’m blind to. All the guys I dated saw me as a piece of meat, they only wanted sex and I gave it to them. But Bette was always different. She looked at me as if I were a marble statue, an incredible work of art. And she cherished me as such.
I turned around from the mirror unable to look at myself any longer. I rushed into the room and put on my gym clothes on. I looked so fat. Disgusting. It won’t be long until Bette sees them and she’ll push me away.
As I grab my bag, the door opens and Bette walks in early from work.
“What are you doing here so early?” I said walking toward her, the annoyance evident in my voice. I don’t want her to see me like this all fat and disgusting..
Bette furrowed her brow and said, “I finished early so I could spend some time with you.”
“I need to go to the gym,” I brushed past her in frustration walking to the door.
“I guess I should have called,” she said, the hurt evident in her voice.
It was tearing me apart inside to have to hurt her but I couldn’t stop myself from saying, “yeah you should have.”
“I’m glad you decided to live with me and not your mother after the divorce,” Francis Kennard said looking at his 15 year old daughter who averted her gaze from him.

No matter what anyone says, you and your sister are beautful just the way you are. It is horrible the way people hurt the people they love. But we can rise above this. Even though it had sad elements the story was beautiful.
Hey TB24. Thank you for sharing this with us. Your mom sounds like so many others sadly. Luckily your sister has you by her side supporting her. Beauty comes from with in. Thanks again Hugs to you and your sister. :)
Wow. That was so amazing beautiful, I was so full of emotion as I was reading this story. I loved the way that you incorporated the shows storyline into how Tina’s issue with her looks affected the choices that she made. Yeah, Mothers can be our best champion or our worst critic. Your creative juices never cease to amaze me.
Correcting myself-Not with her looks-BUT her SELF-ESTEEM.
There’s a lot going on in your story… [if you able to write this way?.. I think what you’re mom tells your sis is kinda to much to bear.] going to read now…I’m on the first part and I’m already flinching.
It never ceases to amaze me the damage mother´s do to their daughters all in the name of “love”. I sincerly hope your sister knows how to fight back and that her life and selfworth will not be too affected.
I just wanted to comment on something Tina’s father said “people cheat for a reason”. Because Tina’s mother is mean and unattractive is grounds for divorce or break up. That’s what you do when you’re not happy in any relationship. People cheat because they’re cowards.
I love your stories BTW keep up the great work. Thank you
Thank you for this thought provoking story. It is a lesson that we need to be more careful in our choice of words. Great story.
thank you, i loved it. hope you sister is okay!
How wonderful was this story. Thank you for it.
Wow.
This touched me. I was always a chubby kid. I had low self-esteem because of it. I grew up hearing the comments from everyone, especially my mother. Choice of words can be either beautiful or brutal and can cut you like a knife. I love myself more now than I did as a child because I had to get to know the beauty within. Thank you for reminding us that beauty comes from within and to watch your choice of words.
My mom committed suicide when I was 9, she was my biggest supporter. Can’t imagine the pain that can be inflicted by those we love
I hope, your sister is o.k.Thank you for this story.
That was amazing and feel bad for Tina and glad she with Bette!
I loved it and u r doing a world of good writing this story. This story will help so many girls out there in the world and if anything alot of them would b lesbians. I know how it feels to hate ur body I am pretty skinny but I still hate my body but there is nothing in the world that would make me do thoses horrible things Tina went through. I guess me wanting to b the more masculen one in a lesbian relationship has to do with it because Im very short so I want to get some muscels like Jennifer Beals/Bette Porter has. But I know that to make it worth while I have to treat my body write. Thank you for the fantastic story.
You are without a doubt an exceptional writer….very brilliant…very creative..the way you incorpate the episodes in this story….Bravo!!!! And tina trust me when i say we can all agree that you was one of the hottest women on the L word, beside your gorgeous wife Bette…both in awe of beauty!
