    Playing By Heart; #01

My fingers gripped tightly onto the large bag on my lap. I looked around suspiciously, hoping that no one was observing my careful movements.

    “Miss?”

I looked up to find a blonde air stewardess looking at me with a smile, “Miss,” she repeated, “You will have to place your bag either up in the overhead compartments or underneath the seat in front of you. We are preparing for take off.”

I nodded in response, “Thank you, I will in a moment,” I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.

I slowly tucked the bag under the seat as I sat back, buckling my seatbelt across my lap.

I looked out the window at the sunlit runway, silently saying my last goodbye to Washington D.C. and my façade, Rachel Shelley.

I couldn’t help but smile slyly to myself. Another job that went according to plan, another few months that I would be able to get by comfortably without worrying about my cash flow.

The beauty of my profession was that it was highly elusive.

Over the years, I perfected my craft; no one had ever called my bluff.

I have been called many names, but only one is my true name: Helena Peabody. It is one that hardly anyone knows, well, except my parents and a few friends I have back home.

    Home for me is England.

I came to America when I was twenty-five in search of independence. My father was con-artist and we were constantly on the move. I have lived in so many towns, slept in so many houses and met so many people. Nothing was ever constant. It was a hard life, but it was the only way we managed to get by.

When I was growing up, I use to believe that my father was some kind of superstar, which explained why we kept moving and changing our last names. But as I grew older, I slowly uncovered the truth.

I mixed with the wrong people and got caught up in the life of sex, drugs and alcohol. I soon unknowingly started to hone my father’s so-called craft to get by on my own. After long last, I finally managed to save enough to buy a one way ticket.

    3. How much more cuter can our Angie get and how much more of a flirt can Bette Porter be.is she single in this are Tina just wasn’t around. Was she being nice because Angie had made Kit spill the milk?? Anyway like it very much Happy New Year

    5. Well of course this seems to be a good fic, you write so well Euni! I am not going to get into though until I see which way it goes. I got really invested in Meet Me in Montauk, why I am not sure, maybe just reaction to the things going on around me at that time, and felt really let down at its ending. As an author, it’s your right to write anything you want, but as a reader, it was disappointing. I don’t want to hope that Bette and Helena will get together here only to have The always there Tina show up. I also wanted to say that Helena is lucky she only got cold milk spilled on her, and not something hot, since they let Angie run around and run into Kit while she is serving.

    6.
