    Playing By Heart; #01

Starting out wasn’t easy and I guess after time, I fell back into old habits.

I was broken. Damaged. I didn’t have enough will power to pull myself out of this downward spiral. I found myself losing all conscience. I didn’t really care about the people I cheated, as long I managed to get by.

Sometimes, during those sleepless nights, I would lie in the dark and my heart would ache with a cold loneliness that often took me by surprise.

I learned to depend on myself for everything, occasionally indulging in the company of others. This life I had chosen to lead was a cold one. I knew that I could never afford to get too close to anyone around me, because most of what I had to offer wasn’t real anyway.

I felt the plane gently ascend into the crystal blue skies and I closed my eyes, allowing the outer layers of my façade to simply fall away.

It had been about a week since I landed in Los Angeles. I moved in a day ago, leaving behind the cold bed of the motel room I was staying in.

The apartment I rented felt as if it stood along the boulevard of broken dreams; each corner stood a hooker, every alley way hid an addict. I felt safe seeking shelter behind the shattered and hopeless spirits of strangers; no one would ever recognize my own brokenness.

I stood, looking out the tiny cracked glass window at the street below me which bustled with activity on this Wednesday morning.

I finally felt ready to leave my shell and explore this new found place that I knew I would never call home.

“Hey there, what can I get for you?” a voice asked as I took a seat inside a little café a few blocks down called The Planet.

I pushed my sunnies up over my head, looking up at a pair of friendly brown eyes, “Urm, what’s good here?”

“Well,” the waitress replied, “The coffee here is pretty good…”

“I’m not much of a coffee person,” I replied, trying to keep my voice friendly despite my wary disposition.

    3. How much more cuter can our Angie get and how much more of a flirt can Bette Porter be.is she single in this are Tina just wasn’t around. Was she being nice because Angie had made Kit spill the milk?? Anyway like it very much Happy New Year

    5. Well of course this seems to be a good fic, you write so well Euni! I am not going to get into though until I see which way it goes. I got really invested in Meet Me in Montauk, why I am not sure, maybe just reaction to the things going on around me at that time, and felt really let down at its ending. As an author, it’s your right to write anything you want, but as a reader, it was disappointing. I don’t want to hope that Bette and Helena will get together here only to have The always there Tina show up. I also wanted to say that Helena is lucky she only got cold milk spilled on her, and not something hot, since they let Angie run around and run into Kit while she is serving.

    6.
