    Posthumous Wisdom (19)

Bette sat at her desk, struggling to concentrate as the events of the last few days filled her mind.  Dana’s letter and the emotions that had evoked,  the guilt that Bette still carried about being away when Dana had died was something she had never really spoken of to anyone.  That led her back to the conversation she had shared with Shane last night, as selfish as it may have been for her to have taken off for some self reflection at that time, was she really capable of having done anything else.  Finally she thought of the weekend she had spent with Jodi.  She remembered her reluctance to communicate with her and her realisation that they’re fail safe coping mechanism when anything cropped up between them was to resort to physical intimacy.  She was shaken from her thoughts by the familiar ding of her IM programme.

    Jodi: Hi, are you there?

Bette: Yes sitting at my desk trying to work but not having much success.

    Jodi: Something bothering you?

Bette: You could say that.  It was lonely waking up without you this morning when do you think you’ll be back in L.A.

Jodi: Are you not going to come visit me this weekend?  It’s Tina’s weekend with Angie isn’t it?

Bette:  I’m not sure this is a good weekend to go out of town.  Shane is having a hard time at the moment and I haven’t even had a chance to check in with Alice yet but I can’t imagine she is doing too well.  I’ve used every free weekend I’ve had to come see you lately I really think I need to catch up with my friends this weekend.

Jodi: Where do you think I’ve been spending my free time?

Bette: I know, I didn’t mean that, it’s just this weekend I really think I need to be here.  Can you understand that?

    Jodi: To be honest… No

    Bette: Oh

Jodi: That doesn’t really help me understand!

Bette: This is the danger of this form of communication was that meant to be funny or sarcastic?

Jodi:  Jesus Bette does the nature of this conversation suggest that I would be joking

    Bette: No

Bette: How long are we going to keep doing this long distance thing?

    1. WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!!! That was incredibly well written…your insight into these characters really helped me to process so much of the hurt and pain they experienced and inflicted on each other. And Dana’s words could not have been written any better. They were both wise and funny. Again…WOW! I was truly blown away by your writing…by your thought process. Home run all the way! Thank you.

    2. Since Tina read Dana’s letter I’ve been skimming the other chapters waiting for this one. I am glad Bette and Tina are finally starting to understand that the things they did to each other were slated to happen and nothing they could have done would have changeed the outcome. Maybe if they can forgive the people they were they can truely move on. Wether that is together or apart that remains to be seen (when they stop pretending that they don’t have very strong feelings for each other hopefully it will be together.) We still need to read thier individual letters and see what Dana left them in the boxes so ppvs.

    3. You know, I haven’t commented on this story before, but I have been following it faithfully. It is an amazing piece of writing, very profound, very tender.

    4. Dana, Dana. *sigh* I’m glad Dana addressed them both individually as well as together. The letters, as Seahurst said, couldn’t have been written any better, and the one to Angie was especially touching. Bette opening up to Tina was something that’s needed to happen. The way she handled it speaks volumes for how much she’s grown. We’ll see how Tina reacts once she’s had time to mull it over. Fantastic, wonderingaloud. More when you can. Thanks.

    5. I totally agree with B, long distance relationship does not work and she could not relocate. Jodi needed to accommodate if she wanted to be around. I was totally blown away by the letter to Angelica. Great wisdom and warning Angelica about A cheating was so priceless. I can’t wait to read letters to B & T. Again, I think you are doing great justice to give us closure to D’s death. I find myself missing her even more as I read your story. It is really poignant. Fantastic job!!! Thank you.

    6. speechless, truly incredible writing!! it was nice to see bette so open with tina!!! and Fcuk jodie that little prissy ass bitch. she knew the deal with bette before getting involved with her!! can you tell i don’t like jodie and bette together, lol….PPS

    7. Hey, well after 40 hrs my head is no longer exploding, think they are still moping up my brain @ work..noisy resturants..not best place to be with liquidfy brain.lol. But to the important things…GREAT chapter, it never even occured to me about a letter to Angel, so that was to sweet! And really..Aunt Alice cheats, still chuckling over that one.

    8. Thats was great what a great way to get bette and tina talking can’t wait to see what will happen next but please post soon great update I love this story

    9. Wow again, what a brilliant piece of writing – who would have thought that our Dana could be so wonderfully deep and thoughtful with her letters. I am truly in awe of this story and can’t wait to see what happens next.

    10. i’m so touched by this chapter. dana is my favorite character and i feel so bad that they have killed her. when the show is centered on the love, i really expect to see the friendship between the gangs, but really, not so much friendship on the show. your story lead me to a deep thought of friendship, and how beautiful it is. i always love the friendship between alice/ dana and shane, they are very different in personality, but they together are really click. how sad when i read dana’s letter to angelica… wonder what she wrote to carmen and if that would help shane and carmen’s relationship. also i love the flashback of alice/ dana and shane, they should had some intense moment only between them and i’d love to explore about it. thanks for the update and please post soon!!

    11. Okay I adore this story, seriously. Glad you agree with me on Bette and Jodi really making no sense together, haha. Both of them need to just chalk it up to a good time and a fling and quit trying to make it into an epic love story, it’s a little stupid. I adore the Dana you’re bringing to life through the letters, and seriously, I’m way jealous that you write so well.

    12. hey! wonderfully written as always:D It’s really sad the way Angelica will grow up without her auntie Dana by her side. It would’ve been nice if Dana would be the one to teach her tennis:( hopefully her mothers and her aunties will start talking about auntie Dana more soon or she won’t know her at all. Thanks for updating! PPS:D

    13. Fantastic writing, as always. Dana’s letter have just inspired everyone to be reflective and honest about their lives. Her letters have sparked some heartfelt and true communication among our ladies. I love your treatment in this story. Bette is having some moments of clarity with Shane and Tina and more honest communication with Tina and Jodie. I really don’t see how Bette and Jodie’s relationship will survive. I love Dana’s letter to Angelica and the fact that Aunty Dana is her angel. Thanks for your update. PPS.

    14. Great update, wondering! Love the part about Aunty Alice cheating. So much growth going on with all the characters. Alice is not the only one who had part of their life on hold. I wonder if the girls would have ever processed their feeling about Dana without these letters. Thanks for the story! PPS!!
