    Posthumous Wisdom (18)

Jenny sat at the kitchen table digesting the conversation she had just had with Shane.   Over the past few months they had seen a lot less of each other as despite not formally moving in together, Shane had spent most nights at Paige’s.   It seemed that was all about to change.  In truth Jenny was glad; she had missed the company of having someone to talk to.  Living alone did not agree with her, she knew that it played into the mental weaknesses that were a part of her character.  She was aware that her behaviour of late was becoming more and more out of control but she wasn’t quite sure how to rectify it.  She couldn’t’ even isolate the moment when things had started to become so warped.  Certainly since signing the rights for her book to be made into a movie, things had taken a turn for the worse.

The one thing Jenny was still good at though, was spending large portions of her day engaged in self analysis.  The only conclusion she had come to about her current situation was that she was engaged in some sort of bizarre effort to sabotage the life that she had created for herself here in L.A. particularly through sabotaging her relationships with her one time friends.  Jenny knew that it was only because of Shane’s insistence that any of the rest of them tolerated her at all anymore and even Shane’s previously unfaltering support was beginning to waiver.

Hearing Dana’s letter on Saturday had reminded her of a time when things had been better.  Jenny knew there was truth in Dana’s words about this group of women being a family.  She was as aware as anyone of the failing of a blood-family and recognised that despite how generous they had been up to this point her adopted family were at breaking point with her.  She resolved to try and change things she just wasn’t sure how she could go about doing it.  Alone in the house now that Shane had gone to try and speak to Carmen, Jenny decided to read her letter from Dana.

    Dear Jenny,

What a strange year it has been for both of us.  I can’t tell you how relieved we all were when you came back to us clearly a stronger and healthier person.  It felt like there was no time between you being well and my being sick.  This disease has made me feel insular.  It has prevented me from having the strength to reach out to others requiring all my energy to keep myself afloat.  I’m sorry about that as I can see that re-integrating yourself into our lives is proving something of a struggle for you.

    1. I know it is just a tv series but it was not easy for me to let go of Dana’s death. I still am very emotional talking about it. Somehow, I realize your story is quite therapeutic. The way the story unfolds is unprecedented and it shows that you have spent your time designing this whole plot with care and thoughtfulness. Thank you for sharing it, Wonderingalound!

    2. hey! I’m glad you posted again. I was ‘out of town’ and we didn’t have computers and the time to even rest there but I’m glad that when I came home ‘Posthumous Wisdom’ is waiting for me. hehe What I really love about this story is that somehow I get closure over Dana’s death that the show certainly hasn’t given me. Just like what hail_danalice said it’s a show but with Dana’s storyline, since season one, I’ve found things to identify with in more ways than one. Thank you for giving us that. You write very well and as I promised I’m here, again, supporting ya all the way;D PPS

    3. Your story’s really good, and really, I should have been commenting earlier. This latest letter to Jenny, especially the last part of it, was great. And Alice’s continuing reaction to Dana’s death really strikes a chord with me, anyway. It takes a while (it’s taken me more than a year) before the first thing you think about when you wake up is that someone you love is gone, but it does pass. You’ve captured everything really well, the letters that Dana wrote have everyone wisely pegged, and the pace of the story is spot-on. Post when you can, I’m really enjoying the story. Thanks

    4. I really really love this story. It’s so heartfelt and really illustrates how torturous it can be to loose someone you love. The different angles and effect Dana’s passing and letters are having on the group is excellent. PPS!

    5. it’s me again wonderful story.i have to agree with jp22 it is hard when you loss some you love in my case it’s my mom.it’s been two years and i still wonder if i could of done more for her when she was with as,but i know deep down that that i did all that i could, thats what my sisters say.but theres that little voice inside that say maybe a little bet more.oh well sorry for rambling on.aging great story

    6. Another great chapter. Thanks! Poor Alice. I think she is finally having to deal with Dana’s death after probably thinking she had dealt with it already. It is definately something she needs to go through, though. PPS!

    7. this story is absolutely gorgeous. Sorry I haven’t been commenting much, but I’m reading every chapter and loving it. This one nearly broke my heart, still so stupid to have killed Dana off.
