    Purest of Pain (Chpt. 5)

    Chapter 5

It was late, or early depending on which side of the sun you were judging time on. The morning’s light was just starting to think about making an appearance. Tina sat alone in the dark in her pyjamas on Alice‘s couch. Her knees pulled up to her chest with one of the blankets draped across her legs, her pillow underneath her arm. She had said goodnight to Alice several hours ago but she hadn’t even tried to sleep.

She was grateful for everything Alice had done for her, taking her in and not asking any questions although she knew she must have a million. Part of her wished that Alice did bombard her with questions, she didn’t know how she could talk about everything she was thinking and feeling otherwise. But she couldn’t blame Alice‘s silence, every time she had started to talk it had ended in tears. She felt exhausted, but she was wide awake.

It’s not that the sofa wasn’t comfortable, as far as it could be considering she was used to sharing a queen sized bed, sharingit’s just that when things were this quiet too many thoughts came to her. Thoughts like that, sharing her bed. With Bette. Sharing everything with Bette.

Tina’s hands cupped the cup of milk and honey she had made herself but had not drunk. It was cold now, but she had no intention of drinking it anyway. Her mind was elsewhere. To be specific it was about twenty minutes away sitting exactly where she had left it on Bette’s side of the bed. Her ring. Her fingers absently drawing circles around where it should be.

Seven years. She had worn that ring and had never once considered there would be a time when it would not be where it belonged, where Bette had placed it. The first year they were married she never removed it. The second year on those few occasions she did remove it she always made sure Bette was the one to replace it back on her finger. In the third year she still didn’t remove the ring easily but when she did necessity often meant that she had to replace it herself.

    2. excellent update. i liked the whole mr. piddles investigation dream. it was a much needed comic relief. bette better get her act together and go see tina. can’t wait for next chapter and the emotional rollercoaster that will take us finally to the beginning of S2.

    3. This was indeed a lighter chapter, especially with Alice’s dream. Very funny, actually. I can’t wait to see how you will bring about the meeting of Tina and Bette.

    4. I love how you’ve tackled that difficult scene in the finale, I cant wait till Tina talks about it and see what her perspective is on it. Watching both characters discuss the break up so sadly with their close counterparts is so heart tugging and eye watering, its excellent writing. Thank you.
