    Ramblings – Chapter 24

Bette: Yes. That is what you are hearing Alice. Yes we are. I’ve got to get back to work you guys. Thanks for coming. Bye

    ***

Dana: It’s so desperate you guys … we have to go ahead and do this.

    Alice: Yeah

    Shane: 6:00p

    ***

Bette: Sorry I’m so late sweetie … I was just pulling out of the garage when I realized that I forgot the three new natural childbirth books we wanted …. What’s going on?

Tina: I don’t know these guys have something they want to talk to us about

Alice: Maybe you should have a seat next to Tina

    Bette: Can I just

Shane: No no no … I have it

Bette: Ok .. Shane will you put that in the fridge because leaving hot food out is what brings the bacteria to life

Tina: And toxoplasmosis is one of the most prevalent causes of birth defects. You get it from contaminated food, unpasteurized cheese, and … cats … cats

    Bette: Outdoor cats

Dana: Slander against cats. Write that down

Bette: What are you writing, anyway?

Alice: OK here goes. The reason we’ve gathered here … your friends and family because we really consider you guys our family. I mean, that’s why we were at that ritual thing… is to perform an intervention.

Shane: Look guys my cousin did this for my uncle Bill and he hasn’t had a drop to drink since they put him in a straitjacket and hauled him off to rehab. Swear

Alice: Thank you for that Shane

    Shane: Sure

Alice: Well … I know what you’re thinking

Bette: Well that is a relief because I can safely say that we’re both just totally mystified.

Alice: An intervention is about helping people you love change destructive patterns of behavior. Now over the past approximately 12 weeks we’ve noticed a very alarming pattern. Um … you two are having a baby, and we are very happy for you.

    Bette: Why wouldn’t you be?

Alice: We are … jump in any time

Dana: OK um guys … we’ve seen this happen with other couples we’ve known. Janet and Sue for instance, Claudia and Tammy, Oh God especially Mimi and Ivy. Wow … um it would kill us you guys if you wound up like Mimi and Ivy OK and we wouldn’t be your friends if we just stood back and let you get so … so

    Tina: What?

    Shane: Boring

    Alice: Boring

    Dana: Boring guys

    Bette/Tina
    : Boring?

Alice: I know this is painful. Denial’s very common. It’s OK. That’s why we’ve actually made of incidents and this multiple choice self-assessment test which we’ll go through with you and then the two of you can fill it out together and tally results.

    Bette: It has results?

    Tina: Results you can tally?

    Bette: Jesus

    Alice
    : OK Ready?

    Bette: No but go ahead

Alice: Wednesday March 5 TK arrives at the Planet with a catalogue of maternity underwear and takes up the entire breakfast making everyone choose between Pima cotton granny panties and wide waistband stretch lycra maternity briefs.

Tina: Sure I did that but I needed you to help me …

Alice: Acceptance is the first step Tina … Dana

Dana: Tina this one’s for you from the questionnaire. An appropriate response to the question ‘Hi How are you? is…”

    Tina: I don’t know … A?

Dana: ‘A’ Fine thanks and you? ‘B’ which also would have been good ‘I’m feeling a little tired today but I’m really happy to see you guys … but ‘C’? Shane.

Shane: ‘C’ Being I’m taking progesterone suppositories and my vaginal discharge is all gooey and brownish and my gums are spongy and bleeding from the hormones and extra blood coursing through my body …

Alice: Bette … I don’t want you to think this is just about Tina.

Bette: No, I’m sure I’ve bored the hell out of you …

Shane: Look guys … we love you so much

    Alice
: We love you guys … we do

    Dana: Ditto … love you

Alice: That’s why it pains us so much to see you on this downward spiral. I mean Tina look at your feet

    Tina: What?

Bette: Oh look see right here … it says true or false? Right now I am wearing fuzzy-wuzzy slippers.

Alice: OK Alright. We made you some extra copies in case you mess up.

    Dana: Bye

    Shane: OK See ya

Bette: (talking to Tina’s tummy) You’re not bored by your mommies are you? (to Tina) He’s not

    1. Oh it makes sense BAT and personally I like the way you are writing it.

Reminders of the parts of the show are good and highlight the issues to be dealt with.

I certainly did not feel disconnected from Bette in any way.

Thank you as always. Enjoyed it ready for the next post.

    2. It did make sense to me. It is important what Bette was feeling at that time and why she succumbed to Candace and betrayed her own morals. Heck, even i would have cracked. There was so much going on and her relationship was already in heavy waters, she was right, they should have had seperate then to spare them all the pain instead of bringing a baby in their lives to save their marriage.

She said very honest and thruthful things, but you had me scared for a moment that she wanted to break up and only wanted to be parents to Angie with Tina.

I can see/read that Alice played a (big)part in the down fall of their relationship with her actions,She did it with good intentions, but she caused them harm with her advice and mingling.

Ok, enough rambling, i hope i made sense, English is not my native language. Looking forward to the next chapter. Thank you.

    3. Bibi28 You make perfect sense, and you got what I was trying to convey in this chapter so thank you for letting me know that my ramblings actually got the point across. The next chapter is posted.

    4. BETTE had no compunction calling MARINA out yet held on to her high morals about monogamy to ALICE.While in NY she never gave it a second thought when she heard TINA needed her,she came home.BETTE held it in her mind somehow that becuz TINA couldn’t come with her she didn’t want BETTE to go.TINA was in a way asking BETTE to choose her/baby or NY and once she came back home lo and behold TINA is just fine.Breaking up another foolish thought of BETTE’s but happened anyway .Was this her way of getting out from under the pressure of job, lack of intimacy, becoming the most wanted lesbian in we-ho again,or perhaps she was over her head in self doubt about what family means coming from one so dysfunctional? When they were boring they at least spent the time with each other and at home.Trying to change from homebodies to life of the party had major setbacks for them both.thanks

    5. The conflicting feelings of the beginning of the first pregnancy of Tina,
messed with Bette, because it was a turning point in the family life of the couple, the pregnancy period in the life of Tina and Bette unfortunately bring about change, psychological and social influencing the dynamics of the couple as their own marriage relationship.
It was a daydream on my part.
Sorry if I said something stupid.
      The complete constellation.
