    Reprisal Reprised- Chapter 10

“Well, for starters, I would like to get my wife back.”

“Not a small place to start” said Alice.

“No, it’s not” agreed Tina.  “But, it is the logical start for me and I figure, the sooner the better, right?”

“Do you have a game plan for this?”

“Are you kidding me?” chuckled Tina.  “If I did have a game plan, it was long tossed out the window.”

“Meaning your visit to Bette yesterday?”

    “Exactly” said Tina.

“Yeah, that was quite the kicker” she said as she leaned back against the sofa.

“She told you about it I’m guessing?”

“Not blow by blow, but I got the gist” she answered.

    “Oh” said Tina.

“Part of the new TK?” asked Alice.  “Saying what’s on your mind like that?”

“I guess” she shrugged.  “Not exactly textbook behavior, but I think that I made my point.”

“Oh yeah” she agreed.  “I think that your point was definitely made.”

“Were you with her last night?”

“Uh huh” she said as she nodded her head.

“And how was she?” she softly asked.

    “A little floored” she answered.

    “Care to elaborate?” asked Tina.

“Well, there’s not really all that much to elaborate.  You know Bette, she is only going to share as much as she wants you to know and past that, forget about it.”

“Yes” sighed Tina, “I am painfully aware of her talent of keeping what she wishes to herself.”

    “Al?”

    “Uh huh?”

“What’s the story with the woman that she’s seeing?”

    “Lee?”

“Is there more than one woman?”

“Well, no, I just wanted to be sure that we were talking about the same person.”

    “The lawyer” clarified Tina.

    “Right” said Alice.

    “So?” she prodded.

“Actually, kind of a funny store there.”

“Side splitting I’m sure” replied Tina sarcastically.

“Well” said Alice, “I don’t know that I would call it side splitting, but-”

    “Al!”

“Ok, ok” she said as she held up her hands as if to defend herself.  “But, can I get a little lunch or something before we get into that?  Remember, I am totally hungover.”

“What did the two of you drink last night?” asked Tina with a raised eyebrow.

“Just a little wine” she said as she smiled sheepishly.

“Just a little wine?” she asked.

“Well, maybe more than a little, but certainly not a lot.”

    “How much, Al?”

“I don’t know, honestly.  I stopped counting after the third bottle was opened.”

    “Alice!” exclaimed Tina.

“What?  We were in pain” she said.

“I get Bette being in pain, but what in the world were you upset about?” she asked with amazement.

    “Bette’s pain.”

“You were upset at Bette’s pain?”

“Well yeah.  Why wouldn’t I be?” she shrugged.

“You two are incredible” said Tina as she got up to walk over to the desk by the window.  Reaching for the room service menu, she tossed it at Alice.

“Order up my friend, cause we have a long way to go here” said Tina with a slight smile on her face.

“Jeez.  Yes m’am” said Alice as she began scanning her options.  “I guess not bein’ so bossy wasn’t one of your behavioral traits that was addressed, huh?”

“I told you that I worked on the things that I thought needed to be changed” chuckled Tina.

“Too bad I didn’t get a vote” muttered Alice under her breath.

“Will you please just pick something?” laughed Tina.

“All in good time, T.  All in good time.”

    1. skippy – im just speechless. this was so unbelieveable good. hopefully al was taping this to give to bette. cuz knowing bette it wont come out this way when they have a talk or two themselves. this is just tina talking with a friend being totally completely herself and not being guarded. that would be the best way for bette to hear and understand. jmho. your writing is fantabulous. loved the dialogue. par excelance. more soon, please. dayum this was good. thanks

    2. I am so glad your back, i was seriously missing this story. I totally can see where Tina is coming from in her rationale at the time of leaving Bette. I hope Bette will be able to hear her. This will sure be a long road to recovery, but one I will surely enjoy. thank you so much for sharing your wonderful talent, it it truly one of the best!!!

    3. humm..now i started to underestand why Tina did what she did but still if she wants Bette back she have a lot of work to do and have to say all the things she just said to Alive to Bette in person…about that Lee woman how much her and Bette are involve?..im glad you back post as soon as you can thanks Skip great chappy :o)

    4. Ithard to get into your own head, someone else can tell you where, when and what, but you have got to do it yourself. Tina is so right its hard to forgive, Hope that Bette can forgive Tina now. thanks

    5. “… And, that is what I couldn’t forgive her for… for taking away what was so personally, what was so obsessively and what was so passionately mine.”
…“Goddamnit! All I wanted to do was forgive her!… I tried so hard, I swear to you…”

Thanks Skipton, for that marvelous peek into the mind of Tina.

p.s. alb has a great idea up there…

Alice tapes this to give to Bette. ~hint!,hint!~

    6. THANK YOU SKIPPY!!!!! You are just toooo f@$&ing awesome at this!!! I’m basking in the afterglow of this fantastic chapter!!! Ahhhhhh! it’s so good!

    7. Thank you for coming back Skip. we’ve missed you. Love how you write this chapter, letting us know what Tina is feeling and always good when you have Alice in the convo. Please keep writing and i’ll keep commenting.

    8. Thanks for coming back with this story, was wondering where it went. Great job of giving us what Tina was feeling and going through. Now if we can just get the munchkin Alice to start working her interference maybe the two yahoos can actually get together, but something tells me Tina for a change is gonna have some work to do. Can’t wait for more.

    9. Tina’s insights are great and you write them so well – but I have to say if someone up and left me to save the marriage without a word of explanation I’m not sure I’d let them back into my heart or life.

    10. 1. A la, ‘The Drama of the Gifted Child’ Tina’s made me think of ‘The Drama of Loving a Very Attractive and Desirable Womnan’. It can be daunting to be in a relationship with someone who excels in all areas. I thought of that as she was explaining how Bette showed her everything when they made love, and how devasted she was when Bette slept with someone else.

      2. ““But Tina, you didn’t even give her the chance” she implored. “Even when she came to New York, you wouldn’t even see her?”” Why indeed? I’m still wondering. Why come back, in that case. The denial seems so irrevocable, so final. I’m still along for the ride though, trusting that you will make it all clear.

      Thanks!

    11. I can understand needing space to work on oneself because one cannot forgive. I can understand that Tina would need time and space to identify her own issues and work arduously on them.

Okay, I think it’s coming to me – she was so lost in it that she couldn’t factor in the future, just deal with all that she had on her plate with no guarantees about the future. The Bette portion would have to be dealt with later. And ‘later’ is now. Now she tries to go forward with what she has learned in by digging deep in therapy. Now she returns to L.A. to try to put the pieces back together.

Okay, I think I’m getting it. Tina should write and book and be on Oprah. Her book, ‘The Drama of the Desirable Bride’ will sell a million. It’s all about having the self-esteem to deal with mating the ‘Bette Porters’ of the world. She can do workshops, attend book signings, make a cottage industry out of the whole thing. Tina, make this thing work for you, girl!
I can hear Oprah now, “Here’s what I’ve learned about relationships where one feels ‘lesser’… I think Tina would look mahvelous on TV. The adulation she would receive from myriad women worldwide would more than balance their relationship checkbook.
And I think this would make a fine fanfic. Somebody, holla if you hear me.

    12. I sort of forgot the storyline; need to re-read from the very beginning. But it doesn’t prevent me from enjoying this chapter. Good job, please keep on.

    13. Nobody can describe peoples emotion and feeling like you. You are without doubt the master. I was reading your old stuff the other day and was thinking where is skip, then you make my day and post. I know this will be a long road for our girls but hey try and post six or eight chapters a day so that we can get to a happy please soon hee hee. You had me crying but it was just so worth it. PWEASE PWEASE POST SOON

    14. I had to go back and refresh my memory about your story and I am glad that I did. This is excellent and true to form. I can totally close my eyes and see these women reacting just like you are describing – it’s like actually watching TLW on TV. You should have written for Season 2!

    15. Wonderful chat between Tina and Alice. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, Skip! We finally have an idea of Tina’s reasoning behind what she did, and thankfully it makes sense! lol I was a little confused as to why she did what she did but I understand now. Thanks for tying up the loose ends. :)

    16. Skipton, so glad that you are back and continuing this story, I had missed it. Please tell me that Alice has a recorder going or her tele. recording this conversation. Don’t believe that Tina could say all this to Bette nor that Bette would let her get it all out, and Bette does need to hear this. post soon please. thanks.

    17. Glad you’re back. Thanks.
Two concepts I really agree with is that Tina had (has) a very difficult time forgiving. And Bette communicates better physically than any other way. Hadn’t thought that that is why Tina has had such a difficult time forgiving.

    18. Skip, I would wait forever, well almost forever for one of your chapters. This was unbelievably wonderful. I loved your insight into Tina and why she did what she did. I’ll be looking forward to the next one.

    19. Alright then, the focus on Tina is coming in a little clearer. I think you did a great job explaining a lot of feelings – not so easy. Loving this story and the way you are telling it. Thanks.

    20. Hmmn. So it looks like I can guilt people into writing…

This really saves me the trouble of explaining Tina’s actions. Thanks! *big smile* (and another smile for the nod)

Great chapter– no, wait: 5 pages makes it an excellent chapter.
      Now where’s the next one?

    21. This was a great chapter. We got a good looke at what Tina was feeling and going through when she made her decision to leav. I am glad Alice is comming aroud and sees Tina side of things, she may be able to help her win back Bette. Thanks so much for posting, this was excellent.

    22. Skip,
Okay. I’m starting to soften where Tina is concerned. You’ve accomplished the great feat of ever so gently suggesting that I listen to her side of the story. As a result, she has a smidgen of empathy from me. How do you do it?
“Don’t you get it, Al? I could see what she at times was not able to share with me. It was at those times that she gave her entire being to me. It was as if she was saying, take me, I’m yours, and I trust you implicitly to look after me, to care for me.”
This statement speaks volumes. Your ability to write so profoundly yet with such ease is admirable. Wonderful chapter. Um…are we going to meet Miss Lawyer Lady?

    23. thanks for your great update. i think you are a great writer, you have truely a way with words and describing emotions. in reel life i am going through a similar situation as your characters. you capture it so well.

    24. I am always awed by your ability to provide dialogue that is so spot on, chapter after chapter. Thank you for this extra long installment, and for carefully, and thoughtfully taking us through Tina’s complicated reasons behind her actions.
