Shane had gotten out of Alice what she had cooked up.  She had changed the travel arrangements Bette had made.  Altering them to the point where Shane knew Bette was going to hate it.  Alice had pulled strings with her reporter friend in Charlotte.  The up side was between Alice and her friend they had made arrangements for Bette and Tina to be flown directly to Elizabeth City, the place where the Coast Guard was stationed and where they would be delivering Angelica after a sea pick up.  The down side was the private charter they had arranged and paid for obligated Bette and Tina to a reporter escort complete with interviews and filming of the reunion.  Shane knew that Alice’s heart was in the right place but even she knew that changing Bette’s plans without her knowing was the quickest way to Bette’s inferno.

Shane knew that time was of the essence and she had no choice but to support Alice’s changes.  This meant she was going to have to get Bette to see that despite all the peripheral distractions this was the quickest way to Angelica.  Not sure how she was going to get this feat done, Shane knew that she would need Tina’s help.

With one last violent swerve, Alice spun her car into a parking space Shane swore was too small.  The car spun with wheels screaming to a stop, exactly parked … perfect.  Alice hopped out of her car seemingly before the vehicle had come to a complete stop.  Shane for all her thought was still holding the dash in disbelief.  The strangest sensation coming over her, the lack of motion a peace that Shane prayed for.

“Shane … Shane hurry up.  Come on what are you doing?  We’ve got to get out of the car if we’re going to catch up with them.  Come on!!!!”

    Chapter 22

When the world says, "Give up,"
Hope whispers, "Try it one more time."
    ~Author Unknown

Shane did a second glance at Alice’s car, illegally parked at the curb.  They were both heading into the ticketing area of the airport.  Looking up Shane suddenly wondered how Alice knew what airline.  She hadn’t really asked Bette what airline she had booked for her and Tina but Alice seemed to know.  “Al, how do you know which airline Bette and Tina are on?”

    1. I am dying for the rest of it. But when you say “finish it up in the next chapter” my heart stops. Please don’t end the story there. There has to be a payoff for this (lovely and gripping) roller coaster ride that you have taken us on. I want that payoff in some warm descriptions of family time and talk. Thanks.

    2. I would not want to be Alice right now. Good thing Shane is there! Jwet I was surprised when you said you were going to end this in the next chapter. I hope that is going to be one very long chapter or possibly you have a sequel planned? This is a great story!

    3. Alice may need a parachute to escape Bette’s wrath! I’m hoping we’ve all misunderstood and there is not just one chapter left. What a great story this has been… hope you are continuing.

    4. I’d like to “kill” you for leaving us in such a tantilizing spot! Is it wrong of me to hope that you are stuck in an aiport again soon so we can get another post? Looking forward to seeing you in NYC on the 2nd!

    5. I know that Bette and Tina will both be PISSED off about the reporter, but they need to focus on the most important thing *Getting to Angelica* I am personally not a fan of flying in small planes (commuters). I have had to fly in on while in Europe and between Indiana and Chicago (Not good during the winter months). Thanks for posting and PPS :o).

    6. Angelica is still hanging on for dear life. I believe that if Bette could do it she would put Alice up on that tower at this moment instead of Angelica. Of course Alice is just trying to help and I hope that Bette and Tina will realize that later on. Be safe while on the road.

    7. Jwet, how delightful to read another chapter. I protest if you’re seriously considering ending soon. I trust you’ll develop the natural rhythm of the story as you always do. Take care of yourself.

    8. This story is so enjoyable, even when there’s a crisis raging. I love when Alice calls Angel her “earthchild”. Looking forward to the next chapter and I too am hoping it’s not the last.

    9. Hey Jwet, As ever you astound me. Just love the race against the clock as Alice and Shane tried to find Bette and Tina. then the move tot he private charter. This was a much needed injection of humor into an intense drama. Bette change from love to frustation was brilliantly drawn out. Balancing this against Angelica’s plight was wonderful. Now I really can’t wait until you complete the next chapter. You have such a talent with dialogue and storytelling. Thank you for sharing it with me. Your Loyal Fan.

    10. Hee. I like the name of Bette’s travel agent! I don’t think Bette will kill Alice (you’ve always been kind ot Alice – hope it continues). However, if I were Bette, I’d kill her travel agent to let someone cancel her flight! Hurry, hurry, please post soon, my fingers are tired gripping the edge of my chair. Thanks for sharing your story.
