Bette checked her office voice mail as soon as she returned from her first meeting of the day. Only one message. But it was the one she was hoping for. She jotted down the number that Tina had left, noting that she would be teaching until after one o’clock. She smiled at the fact Tina had already felt compelled to call. She might very well have been flirting all those years ago, but at the time Bette had yet to realize her orientation was entirely directed towards women, so nothing ever came of it.
‘I wonder what she teaches?’ Bette thought to herself. She brought her chair closer to the desk and sought out some answers via 21st century technology.
She started with the basic search terms – name and city – and clicked on the first result. The picture matched who she had seen that morning. But in the photograph, she kind of looked…like a librarian. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that…) She started reading.
‘Dr. Kennard joined the University of Toronto Faculty of Physics during her sabbatical from UCLA, and has been instrumental in developing mathematical models intended to predict the rate of collision of subatomic particles. Currently theoretical, there are expectations such research could have implications for the future creation of matter.’
"Fuck," Bette whispered under her breath. "She’s only here for a sabbatical. And she’s from L.A."
Always one to seek out the upper hand in any situation, Bette continued to look through the site. Tina’s office location was listed. Bette glanced at her calendar and noted a block of unscheduled time between three and four thirty that afternoon. She’d work through lunch today and stay late to justify it, but it appeared a field trip might be in order. It turned out Tina’s office was a fifteen minute walk from the gallery. Her last couple months in Toronto were starting to look up.

Bette made her way through the maze of hallways and cubicles and finally saw a sign that directed her to Tina’s office. Before she even confirmed the office number, she saw Tina staring intently at a computer screen inside, surrounded by stacks of paper. She approached and knocked crisply.

Oh, they are not on the same page yet. What happens if no one else is around to prod Tina? Will she act on her own or just give in to her doubts and lack of confidence? Will she let this chance reunion pass? Can’t wait to find out in your next posts. Thanks a lot for this treat, jks. Cheers! =)

Tina is kinda lame socially but very cute/sweet.
Hopefully, Tina will gain the confidence she needs. Hang in the Bette, it’s Tina’s next move and she will make one. Right, Swimmie?

Wait, back when they knew each other in college Bette wasn’t aware of her orientation??? Now that’s an interesting twist! But the part that intrigues me most is that your Tina is the brainiac physicist Dr. Kennard! Mmmmm, I think I’m in love – thanks Swimmie :o) . Maybe you could have her do some kind of colliding particle experiment with Bette ;o)
When I read Tina introduce Zach I thought “whoa whoa!” ✋😧👈 what are you doing Tina? I wondered why Bette didn’t stick around to find out what kind of partner he was. Thanks 🐠

Phew! Finally manage to catch up :-)… hey JKS :-) thanks for giving us another story! A very intriguing beginning may I say! And Tina being so not bright on introducing her “partner” on her crush *doh!* and Bette for being so easily scared off! Pretty interesting, as their roles now not so usual ;-) and the possibilities of having long distance relationship might be there also.. Which may lead to another branch of many possibilities also.. Anyway JKS.. Choose anyway, and we will still read whatever you share here :-) hehehe.. ;-)

Dr. Kennard doesn’t just need wingman, it appears she needs a cadre of associates to HELP HER GET A CLUE! Her intelligence is appealing and, as the brain is the most erogenous of all erogenous zones, she should be very capable once she puts her mind fully to the task of reviving their old acquaintance. Love this twist. Thanks!
