Five weeks has passed since The Bad Beats signed their contract with Gabby. Their manager seemed to be doing her job well, keeping them busy with regular gigs, rehearsals, and recording. The girls knew right from the beginning the sacrifices they had to make if they wanted to get where they want to be. Often they would come home from 16-hour days spent inside the studio or from songwriting sessions.

It was a Saturday night and The Bad Beats just finished playing at Magnet, a bar/resto where artsy, hipster types hung out. The place was packed and Bette was ecstatic to see that people were actually paying to see them play. Slowly, their music was gaining a following in the underground scene, an idea that made her feel like things were finally going right for her. Above all the success though, Bette couldn’t help but feel that perhaps the best thing that has happened to her in the last two months is the girl who was sitting right beside her.

Tina wiped the sweat off of Bette’s forehead with her hands. “You’re so sweaty, babe… and you were great as usual.”

Bette gave Tina a kiss on the lips.

“I like it when you’re sweaty.” Tina whispered seductively, sending a shiver down Bette’s spine.

“Ahem.” Helena’s voice interrupted the couple as she joined them at the table.

“Oh, hey Hel.” Tina broke contact with Bette and greeted her friend.

“Mind if I join you? I can’t seem to find Dana anywhere!”

“Sure.” Bette actually wanted to spend time with Tina because this was the first time probably for the whole week that they got to see each other. But she also knew that Helena didn’t know anybody else in the bar so she invited their friend to join them.

“Thanks, Bette. You guys were great! Love that new song that you played…”

“Thanks. We’ve been working on it for quite a while. We finally finished it last week.” Bette took Tina’s hand in hers.

“I overheard some guys out there saying how hot you were…” Helena informed Bette.

“Oh, really now?” Tina raised her eyebrows at Helena then faced Bette. “Well, lucky for me you’re gay, right?”
