    Savannah

"She looks like an overgrown butterfly." She said laughing and crying at the same time.
Jonas stepped in to calm the baby down. The experienced keeper, knelt by the little cow once she had calmed down a little,  talking softly to her.
It took no more than a cuddle and a few reassuring words from the experienced keeper for the elephant to be appeased.
"How are we going to bring her back?" Tina asked Bette, wiping the tears from her face. She could not keep her eyes off Jonas either and was amazed to see how the head keeper worked his magic on the newborn.  Now firmly locked into what could only be described as a tender hug, the little elephant had wrapped her trunk around the head of the keeper.
Following Tina’s gaze, the brunette said, "We call him the elephant whisperer. He is very special, pure of heart and elephants sense that. They can read your heart, you know and they will know instantly if you will love them or hurt them."
A sudden sadness passed in the usually soft brown eyes of the vet and Tina instantly felt that the words of the brunette held an even deeper meaning.
"Oh and to answer your question. The calf will ride with us….. In the helicopter….. You coming to help? You need to earn the right to wear that uniform!"
Tina stood rooted to the spot. She looked on as Bette, the keepers and the baby elephant made their way back to the helicopter.
The surprisingly calm little cow now tottered along on wobbly legs, waggling her trunk around as though she had no idea what to do with it, trusting entirely the humans she had only met a moment ago.
Tina helped unload the compartmentalised beer crate which held rehydration fluid and formula milk for the baby. It had so far been the most secure way of transporting the necessary feeding bottles during a rescue operation.
"Tina, you will do the feeding, while we ready her bed for transportation." Bette decided.
"You want me to what?" Tina asked.
"Feed the baby." Bette had reiterated. "You need to give her a bottle, just like a human baby."

    1. Silent reader here. This story just brought tears to my eyes. I feel the plight of the tiny elephant right in the center of my soul. Please let “Butterfly” live and let the love of Tina and Bette blossom as so to rid the earth robbers such as Jodie. I was fortunate to visit Kenya about 12 years ago and experience nature as only it can exist in Africa. Please contimue to write this wonderful story. PPS

    2. Amazing and sensibly written chapter. I wasn’t reading it, I was in the savannah discovering, feeling its beauty with Tina. Thanks for detailing the extraordinary work of all the people involved in safeguarding the wilde life. your account hit home as a fews days ago I saw a tv report on rhinos massive killing for their “aphrodisiac” ivory! We need more awareness in every way possible, again thanks for this beautiful post and now you have to find a way and post asap…………… BTW, I subscribed a lifelong membership in that infamous club ((^_^))

    3. Okay, I loved this chapter. Very sad, but that’s part of the intent of the story and so beautifully written that you can only be drawn to it and go with the flow… And again, necessary for the building of the chemistry. And a little bit of awareness promotion never hurts, does it? Now, I must share that I laughed at myself at the beginning of the story because, and that shows your talent in writing realistically, I actually suffered from vertigo when Tina was on that helicopter!!! I swear I am not exagerating, LOL! That’s how much in the story you took me! Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed the trip, but it was so funny that there wa

    4. Oups, wrong key… There was a point where I couldn’t wait for them to land!! I know it’s silly… Yet, it is the truth. Anyway, I’ll say it again, I love this story, you are amazing, and I am so glad you actually chill out by writing for us… Please, keep chilling! Right, time for bed… Merciiiiiiiiii! Kw

    5. Kins, once again wonderful story telling! You have such a gift for bringing all “to life” …. but no fair! You failed to give the “two-hanky” warning (sniff). Having been on enough animal rescues with my better half I feel for Tina and also hope “Butterfly” lives. Can’t wait to see where you take us next :) Have a great weekend! PS – re: the water mellon thing, I get that comment alot ;)

    6. i have a newfound respect for elephants thanks to your story, I mean I’ve always had an appreciation for animals, I love all of God’s creations, but reading this heartbreaking scene, I would probably react the same way Tina did

    7. Wow, your writing is such a pleasure to read. Like the baby elephant, I felt cocooned in your words. I came to the end and realized that tears had pooled in my eyes. Loved Bette and Tina hearing each others reactions thru the headsets. Beautifully written! Thanks for the frequent updates. Can’t wait for your next chapter.

    8. Please..call Bette to come get me..I’m lost in your story! Please..call Bette in her helicopter..I am lost in the story!:O Amazing update I truly just love this story!!

    9. No I don’t need a warning regrding jodie, I just want her gone, permanently. Oh my goodness, you take me through so many emotions with your brilliant writing. You took us to the savannah and on that darn helicopter ride too, being afraid of heights, I could feel it, I would have lost my toenails. Love how sensitive Tina is, the mother in her coming out with her soft and loving heart. When she has to go back to NY, she is gonna hate to leave little “Butterfly” and her human Mama B. Love this story for a lot of reasons. You describe their world so perfectly. Have you been there? Thanks for posting such a warm and loving chapter.

    10. Oh Kins! Thanks!! So beautiful chapter! Kinda bitter sweet though.. Your story makes me adore the elephant more, especially their babies… Your writing brings back the memory of those mix feeling when looking at those giant baby with their innocent look… And LoL… If there’s any show on the elephant whisperer, I will watch them for sure!! ;-) erm would you please keep the baby elephant alive? Besides for a kind of make up after made your reader shed tears… It can be an extra bonding for T to stay there and not going back??? ;-) he3… Anyway it’s Saturday in my place now.. I still looking forward to their Saturday too ;-) thanks for the update Kins! and have a great weekend! :-)

    11. The only emotion missing from that chapter was the “music” from OUT OF AFRICA.(one of my top ten movies)…and loved the line: “girly ribbon”. Keep ’em coming…this is quite enjoyable!

    12. Your description of the baby elephant is so sweet. I really hope she lives. Tina seems share Bette’s sensitivity with animals. That should go a long way toward making Bette feel more safe with her.

    13. K40..omg..you’ve made me cry..I’m crying while reading..damn..the tough choices, the “Braveness” the Calf showed, And the sad fact that we can’t save THEM ALL.. ..AWESOME UPDATE!..

    14. Your stories amaze me. Today you described an animal, how it looked and all. Even that was very beautiful. Your stories can fill a heart with tenderness and love. Today that tenderness was for the little baby elephant. Please post more frequently.

    15. Your stories amaze me. Today you described an animal, how it looked and all. Even that was very beautiful. Your stories can fill a heart with tenderness and love. Today that tenderness was for the little baby elephant. Please post more frequently.

    16. Very moving chapter, K40. And we have discovered that Tina is a big softie. So endearing. And having flown in a helicopter before, I can only imagine how sexy that sigh from Bette was coming in surround sound thru the headphones! By the way, I posted, so it’s your turn to post another chapter. How about quid pro quo? You post, and I shall follow? What do you say?

    17. Simply amazing – you took every one of us along for the ride across the savanne and made it real. I swear I saw each and every animal pointed out and felt the excitement. Wonder if “Butterfly” will refuse feeding from anyone but Tina.

    18. I felt dizzy from the ride, but it was breathtaking one, and the sight of the baby elephant is overwhelming, I could cry with Tina! I loved this chapter it is amazing one I can’t wait for ur updates, and nice to “see” u 2 ;D
