Shane and Molly: A Love Story – Chapter 12

After getting Shay into bed, Molly sleepily makes her way into the family room, where Shane is sitting quietly on the couch, lost in thought. Walking up behind her, Molly lightly brushes her hand across Shane’s shoulder. “Hey,” she softly calls to her.

Turning around, smiling, Shane says, “Hey, yourself.”

Molly circles the couch and sits down next to Shane. Putting her arm around her, she says, “You’ve been quiet ever since we left the party. Everything alright?”

Nodding, Shane replies, “Yeah.” She leans over and places her head in Molly’s lap. “Just thinkin’.”

Combing her fingers through Shane’s hair, Molly asks, “About what?”

                “Us.”

                “What about us?”

“Our future,” Shane says, rolling onto her back, so she can see Molly.

“Shane, if this is about what we talked about earlier, I’m okay. I know how you feel about marriage. Knowing you love me is enough.” She bends down and kisses Shane. Shane reaches up and cradles her head as she kisses her back.

Breaking away from the kiss, Shane looks into Molly’s eyes and asks, “Will it always be enough though?” She sits up and turns to face Molly. Unsure of how to answer Shane’s question, Molly hesitates a bit. Shane jumps on her silence and says, “I didn’t think so.”

“Shane,” Molly says, apologetically. She brings her hands to Shane’s face and looks her directly in the eye. “I love you and I want to be with you. I’ll take you anyway I can. Married, not married, whatever.”

Shane looks away from Molly for a moment and then, returning her gaze to Molly’s face, asks, “What if it’s not enough for me?”

Clearly puzzled, Molly just stares at Shane at first. She takes a few moments to collect her thoughts and eventually, she says, “I thought you weren’t into the idea of marriage.”

Becoming frustrated by her own uncertainty, Shane inhales sharply as she stands up. “I don’t know what I think anymore. All I know is, I want to be with you and I…uh…I–”

Knowing that Shane is starting to get uncomfortable, Molly jumps in. “Babe, we don’t have to decide this now.” She takes Shane’s hand and pulls her back down to the sofa. “I love you. You love me. We’re together and we’re happy. That’s all I need.” She kisses her passionately. Shane returns her kiss with fervor.
