“Let me look at you “ she regarded her grand-daughter “ You looked beautiful darling “
“Thank you –where’s grandpa ?”
“Gone out to see a friend of his who isn’t too well. “
She looked at Bette who was standing a few metres away
“Are you going to introduce me to your young lady Tina ?”
Tina took a deep breath
“This is Bette Porter – she’s my girlfriend who I love – Bette – this is Jacky Kennard my grandma “
“Hello Mrs Kennard – I am delighted to meet you “
Bette held out her hand but Jacky grabbed Bette and pulled her into a warm embrace.
“Bette I am so pleased to meet you at last – shame on you Tina for not bringing her over sooner. “
Bette beamed- she had been anxious about how the older generation of Tina’s family would regard their relationship – this first encounter was encouraging.
“Come into the house – have you eaten this morning ?”
“Yes thanks “
“Coffee and cake okay ?“
“Honest grandma – we are fine “
“I never refuse cake “ Bette said “And I’ll have Tina’s share “
“You are a glutton “ Tina said laughing
“Merely accepting your southern hospitality “ Bette replied
Tina put her arm around her grandmother “If you start feeding Bette she will be like a stray dog – always at the front door – you will never get rid of her “
“Its nice to have my grandchildren here – come on in Bette “
Bette followed and looked around the kitchen – it was large and homely with an old fashioned Welsh dresser in a corner – Bette who had an interest in antiques went across and looked at it. Tina was standing chatting to her grandma as she opened cupboards and removed plates. A door just off the kitchen lead to a large, cool pantry – she emerged carrying a cake tin. Tina was wandering around obviously delighted at seeing items that she remembered from her childhood. After fussing around for ten minutes they were all sitting around the scrubbed pine table with giant slices of ginger cake in front of them.
“Take a bite Bette – tell me what you think “

FINALLY I’VE READ THIS!..YOU KNOW HOW LONG HAVE I BEGGING YOU TO POST ANOTHER CHAPTER IN THE OTHER SITE?… [I’m still begging in there you know] God! hope they find Tina’s dad so they can move on, ESPECIALLY TINA who don’t want to do anything about her mom..If not for her dad’s missing, I think she will not be talking to her mom sooner then expected, she’s so vile about her…
