    Soulmates

Quickly sitting up, Bette looks around at the guys still sound asleep.  In this predawn light Bette could still see the pain on all their faces as they slumber.  He knew he was going to have to let them grieve but he didn’t want to take the time for himself.  He needed to find Tina.  He needed to bring her back.  Bette knew the only way to make up the lost time was to push really hard and he didn’t want to ask these men to punish themselves that way when they each had lost so much of their own.  This search was something he was going to have to do on his own.  With his mind made up Bette got up and began gathering all his stuff.  By the time he had his horse saddled and ready to go the guys were all up quickly gathering their own stuff.

“Hey, hold on.” Bette said.  They all stopped and looked at each other.  They all knew from Bette’s body language that he was about to tell them something they weren’t going to like.  “Guys I figured out that we are heading in the wrong direction.”

As soon as he got this out they all moaned.  Bette just nodded sharing their mood.  “Yeah exactly.  We just handed them three days more to get away from us with.  So in order to make it up I’m going to have to really cover a lot of ground.  Now I know I can count on each and every one of you guys but you have pressing issues of your own to deal with.  ‘Being up the mountain like this we are a lot closer to all of our tribe.  I think all of you need to go home and grieve with your extended families.  Tell them the news and let them know I am going after Tina.”

Immediately they all begin protesting “No Bette we want to go with you.”

Bette let them get this out.  “Know that I hear all of you and I appreciate your desire to help but she’s my wife and I can’t quit till I find her.  I don’t know how long it will take.  Go home.  Grieve and try to heal.” Bette says as he walks up to each of them and shakes their hand and pulls each one in for a hug.  All of their emotions are high and none of them want to cry so they avoid looking each other in the face.

While none of them want to see Bette go off alone they knew he was right.  They all had family that they had to tell the bad news.

After Bette hugs the last guy he quickly mounted his horse and was off he didn’t want to linger over this goodbye.  This time it’s the right direction.  His only prayer was that he wasn’t too late.

Any kindness the Beast showed Tina due to the miscarriage quickly evaporated the next morning when Tina was woke up by him pressing himself onto her.  Tina still badly swollen, bruised and in pain could do little more than close her eyes and will her mind to a better place.  She visualized Bette’s tender smile on their wedding day the first time she saw him.  She also allowed her mind’s eye to see the love in his eyes the first time they were together.

These were the thoughts in her mind that she used to block out the reality of what was happening to her.  So compelling where these images in Tina’s minds eye that they allowed her to almost able to block out the Beasts with his grunting and rocking as he continued to maul her.

    3. Jwet – so glad to see your post and know that you are ok. What a blow to have your story disappear when you are doing someone a favor by loaning them your thumb drive!! Well, I admire your tenaciousness in re-writing and building this wonderful story again. Thanks for this and for your commitment to your readers.

    4. My condolences on your lost work – what a terrible pain — and there’s so much pain in this story as well — hopefully things will improve for all with the help of good friends…

    5. Fabulous to see you back. My Fridays have missed you. What an aggravation to have lost your work! Can only imagine the number of copies you’ve secured. The same adage applies to our Nomadic Tina and Bette…how much more wrong can they endure? Just keep hoping for them, but fear that the Beast has done too much.
