Subtleties * Chapter 14 * THE END
CHAPTER 14
James hesitantly made is way down the hall toward his boss’ office. He could hear Bette and Ms. Kennard talking, their conversation punctuated every now and again with infectious laughter. He had considered leaving an hour ago; however he felt the need to check in with Bette, even if it meant embarrassing himself by intruding on a personal moment. Sure enough, as he gently knocked on the door, he had realized he interrupted an impromptu kiss. The two woman, both perched on Bette’s desktop, startled at the sound of James’ knock,
"Jesus, James. I thought you had already left." Bette picked up the half empty glass of champagne beside her and drained its’ contents.
"I’m actually on my out now, but I wanted to stop in and give you the final numbers," James smiled as the two beautiful women before him held their breath. "Tricia sold five of her pieces for a total of fifty thousand dollars."
"Shut up," Bette stated in disbelief as Tina whistled through her teeth.
"I would imagine that will make for a nice phone call," James grinned again. Bette Porter may be a hard–assed perfectionist, but she was his hard-assed perfectionist. His professional and personal loyalty to his boss knew no bounds. The blonde sitting beside her clearly made the gallery owner happy and for that James was grateful.
"That’s fantastic James, thank you for sorting it out." Bette smiled, "now get the hell out of here already."
"You need me to help with the cleanup?"
"No, our people will be here tomorrow. Tina and I will lock up tonight." Bette smiled widely and James just shook his head.
"Good night Ms. Kennard."
"Night, James." Tina watched as he closed the door and shook her head in laughter.
"What are you laughing at?" Bette couldn’t help but enjoy the blonde’s antics.
"I don’t know," Tina admitted honestly, continuing to giggle as she picked through the tray of hor d’oeuvres that sat on Bette’s desk between them.
"I think you’re a little drunk," Bette whispered.
"I think I’m a lot drunk," the blonde tried to wink, succeeding only in a double blink. "Gawd, take these things away from me before I eat the whole tray."
Bette shook her head, "Aren’t they cold?"

Wow, thank you for this story. It was unpredictable in the way that I really enjoy, and very fun. You took Bette and Tina, and distracted us from their usual context and characteristics, and for that I’m incredibly grateful. This story was unique, creative, and it will be missed. Also, your writing is wonderful.
Im sorry to see this story end, thank you for writing it,I hope you have more for us.
