    Chapters 3&4

    Chapter 3

     

    Almost 2 years later…

     

    Bette walked into her house, quietly opening the door she balanced a sleeping baby in one arm a diaper bag and her brief case in another, she quickly walked over to the couch and dropped the bags and quietly walked into the baby’s room and placed her 1 year old sleeping daughter in her crib, she reached out and placed her hand on the top of her daughters unruly curls and gave her a lingering kiss on her forehead.

     

    “You’re so beautiful” Bette whispered as she gave her daughter another kiss and walked out the door bringing the baby monitor with her.

     

    Bette sat on the couch kicked off her shoes and picked up the phone, she dialed a number that was becoming all too familiar it was Thursday night and she was just told by Franklin he had managed to set up a meeting for her tomorrow with a huge donor, she needed to meet him for dinner and convince him why it was a good idea to donate to the CAC.

     

    Bette was upset, but she couldn’t do anything about it, the problem being she didn’t have a sitter lined up she would normally ask one of the girls or Kit to watch Angie but they were all in Vegas celebrating Tasha’s return from Iraq.

     

    “Hello” Bette heard the young girl answer

     

    “Hey Miranda this is Bette Porter”

     

    “Oh hey Ms. Porter”

     

    “Listen Miranda I know this is short notice but I just found out I have a very important dinner meeting scheduled for tomorrow, and I need a sitter for Angie are you free?”

     

    “Yes Ms Porter I’m free”

     

    “Oh thank God” Bette whispered

     

    She heard the teenager giggle

     

    “What time do you need me to be there?”

     

    “How about 6pm I should be home by nine, ten at the latest” Bette said

     

    “Ok, sounds good I’ll see you tomorrow”

     

    “Great Miranda thank you, let me know if you need me to speak to your parents”

     

    “Ok will do Ms. Porter"

    Bette hung up the phone and breathed a sigh of relief she was glad she was able to get a sitter for Friday on such short notice, and though she hated being away from Angie she knew she had to be this meeting was very important, if everything went well it would guarantee an extension of her contract and a nice raise to go along with it, she loved working at the CAC.
