Previously:
“A freshman medical student, Charlotte Elizabeth Mitchell, 18, has scooped the much coveted Archibald Kennedy ‘Young Artist’s Foundation Prize’ right out from underneath the artists noses! Charlotte, who began her studies at New York University only four months ago was encouraged to submit her piece entitled “The Flight of Time” by one of her college professors through an extra credit art class. The artists are stumped, it is the first time on university record that a non-arts major has won the prize.”
Tina read it again, and then again, before copying the link and sending it to Bette’s email.
The buzzer on the phone went.
“Yes Ruby?”
“Er … Tina … your 9:30’s here”
Chapter Seven.
“So … what are you doing with your afternoon?” asked Tina as they strolled back from The Planet in the midday sun.
They’d been walking along in an easy silence, each lost in their own thoughts. Tina still mulling over her earlier revelations and Lottie preoccupied by her morning visit with Lisa to the free clinic in East LA.
“Lisa suggested I have a look over the CBT session material,” Lottie answered, “she wants me to understand what I’m dealing with before we start the audit.”
Tina nodded, “Good idea.”
“Am I still getting Angelica?” Lottie asked,
“If that’s okay,” replied Tina, “I don’t expect I’ll be too late, but you can just take her back to the house and wait for me there.”
“Okay”
Tina looked across at her, a million questions running through her mind, she wished she had more time to talk to Bette. Their conversations were always too brief, too hurried, checking in with each other about work, about Angelica, their friends. Tina wanted to explain the uneasy feeling she had surrounding Lottie but it just didn’t translate well over the phone. Bette would frequently joke with her that she failed to see the artist behind the art but Bette could read a painting far better than she could a person.
They slowed to approach the front door of the building and Tina turned to rest against the low wall,
“Lottie?” she asked, her voice truly caring for the first time, “were you … were you planning on living at the hotel the entire summer?”

Whoa…u wrote so well…but I don’t get the telephone fight, meaning I saw NO REASON for either to get mad BUT as it lead to a make-up phone convo okay!!!! Loving the suspense but not forever, huh???? Are u gonna leave it for Bette to get home and see Lotte for the big reveal…hope Bette comes home early to surprise Tina, of course!!!!
oh yeah, I’d prefer for her to be Bette’s half-sister; same mom, different dad’s…

Is it Monday yet? I can’t wait for Bette and Tina to get together for family time without kids. Also I wonder if Bette will see something in Lottie that will get her mind to wondering.
Sofasitter you have spun a web that is very mysterious. So Bette isn’t Lottie’s mother unless Lottie lied to Tina about her mother dying when she was 7…shoot she is lying about her reason for being in LA so why wouldn’t she lie about that? If Tina and Bette would have been talking about anything else they would have had an argument also because Angelica said that’s what they do…it’s part of the process. I hope Bette comes home early…in time for the BBQ. I love this story and I hope you post again soon and end all of our guessing.
