-UCLA Dorms (flashback continues)-

After introducing themselves Tina helped Dana bring the rest of her things up to their room.

Dana: So are you excited about college? she asked, throwing her gym bag on her bed.

Tina: Eh, kinda but not as excited as I am to be out of Portland

Dana: Oh youre a northerner huh

Tina: Yep. You from around here?

Dana: Yeah just about forty five minutes away

Tina: Thats cool

Dana: So what are you studying?

Tina: Film and Photography

Dana: Oh, thats cool

Tina: Yeah, its really the only thing I enjoy.

Tina didnt usually like meeting new people. She was quite the communicator once you got to know her but first meetings were always difficult, mainly because it was always the same questions, what do you do for fun? Stupid questions like that, nobody paid attention to the answer anyway. It was just a way to fill space. Dana was different though, she seemed like the kinda person Tina would hang out with back home and that gave her some much needed comfort.

The two newly acquainted roommates continued on with some light conversation as they continued to unpack their things. Dana pulled her CD player out of a box and set it on her desk.

Dana: Do you mind if I put something on?

Tina: No not at all

Dana opened her CD book and leafed through her collection a few times before making a decision. Tina was interested to hear what Dana had chosen; she always believed you could tell a lot about a person by the music they listen to. Tina smiled to herself when she heard the first chords of a familiar Melissa Etheridge song. She knew there was something about Dana that she wasnt revealing. Dana pulled out a couple of family photos and set them on her desk. Tina watched as Dana pulled out another picture and smiled.

Dana: Hey Tina? she turned around holding the picture to her chest.

Tina: Yeah?

Dana: I know we just met and everything but were roommates and youre going to find out eventually nervousness laced her words.
