Tell Me Something Good – Chapter 11

    “I’m sorry, Mama.”

“It’s okay, baby…it’s only water. It’ll dry.” Bette patted down her shirt with napkins. She removed her shirt and draped it over her chair.

Alice looked at the shirt that Bette was wearing. Her eyes grew wide. “Oh my god, Bette…isn’t that the shirt that I gave Tina for her birthday one time.”

Bette looked down at the shirt, pretending not to remember, she shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know.”

“It is that shirt. What are you doing wearing it? Huh?”

    Bette blushed.

Shane looked at the shirt. “Isn’t that the shirt you were wearing last night?”

“When did you guys ever take notice of what I wore before.” The brunette asked.

Tina watched the inquisition and decided to put a stop to it. “Bette had dinner with me and Angie last night. Bette gave Angie a bath and was splashed with water. The shirt that she was wearing got wet.”

Al mumbled under her breath, “I’m sure that’s not the only thing that was wet last night.”

“Did you say something, Al?” The brunette asked with a raised brow.

Al straightened in her chair. “I said, ‘I’m sure that’s not the only thing that was wet.’ I’m sure the floor was wet too.”

“Right…I’m sure that’s what you said.”

A waitress walked over to the group and gave her their orders.

“Mama? Can I have some pancakes?”

“Yes, but I don’t want you eating it with too much syrup okay.”

“Yes mama.” The little girl settled on her mother’s nap.

“So, Tina…where do you live?” Shane asked her friend.

“Shane, you will not believe this, but Angie and I live around the corner from you and Bette.” Tina took a sip of her coffee. “On Charles St.”

“Wow….Angelica’s the little girl that Bette told me about. I’m guessing you’re the one that Bette met yesterday at the park.”

“Yes. It was a complete surprise.” Tina smiled at the memory. “Actually, Bette fainted.”

“I’m sorry…can you repeat that?” Al asked.

“I fainted when I saw Tina.” Bette clarified. “And she caught me before I hit the ground and then we had lunch here yesterday.”

    “KIT!” Alice yelled.

Kit walked over to the table with her food.

“Kit…you knew about Tina and didn’t say anything?”

“That’s right.” Kit sat next Alice.

For the next three hours the friends chatted and gossiped during a meal that consisted of fruit, pancakes, French toasts, oatmeal, coffee, and juice. They talked and laughed as if it was something they had been doing in a long time.

Bette stood and stretched her legs. “I have to get going. I have things to get ready for work tomorrow.” Bette grabbed her shirt from the back of her chair and put it on.

“Yeah, me too and Angie needs her nap. I didn’t think we’d stay as long as we did.” Tina wiped Angie’s mouth with a napkin.

“T…I’ll take Angie to the ladies room to get cleaned up, okay.” Bette took Angie by the hand and walked toward the restroom area.

    Tina watched the two leave.

Dana, Al and Shane watched Tina watch mother and daughter.

“So, Tina, what’s going on with you and Bette?” Al asked.

    1. Great update. And the reunion went off without a hitch with the exception of Alice, of course. Hope Tina will put a stop to the grilling. Thanks for posting.
