    Bette reached for my arm and caressed it with her fingers. “Be patient Sissee.” Her eyes narrowed, crinkling at the sides for emphasis. “Please, be patient.”

    We were playing and it was fun.

    I stood in front of her and knotted the ties at her bosom into a bow and then double knotted them with a butterfly affect. Very nice but there was always a chance the top would slip down and expose a peekaboo boob or two, so, in the end we decided the first way was the best. It would simply be tied at the back of her neck. She followed me out of the dressing room and I looked at her again. Red was her color. She always looked fabulous in it.

    However, we had to move right along. We checked out the accessories and found floral bracelets and earrings that matched our outfits. I bought a cream kukui nut necklace. Bette picked up some silk flowers and put a yellow gardenia behind my ear and a white hibiscus behind hers. We were all set to blend in with the rest of the natives.

    Makena was now just south of us and the Maui Prince Hotel itself was a hidden, serene oasis tucked away from the madding crowd. Walking in to the central courtyard we saw a beautiful Japanese garden with koi ponds, waterfalls and actual streams. Beyond that, just a short walk away was a black sand beach that was absolutely stunning against the azure blue water, highlighted by the slowly, descending sun.

    As soon as we arrived at the luau site we were greeted with a friendly, “Aloha” and a lei of tiny shells. Bette and I could just not stop smiling. It was all such a delightful scene. The palm trees, the flowers, the tropical breeze. But more than that, we were feeling good about ourselves, in fact, kind of show-offy, very much aware of the attention we were getting. As we moved along, people we saw standing and waiting, looked at us with approving smiles. Heads snapped. Men especially gave us flirtatious grins. I have no idea what prompted Bette to do it but she took hold of my hand just as we got to the open bar.

    We stood there for a moment, wondering how to get a drink because there were so many people. Two other women caught our eye. They were standing with mai tais in their hands and nodded with a “welcome-to-our-world” kind of look on their faces.

    2. September, If you’ve ever been in Florida, that compares somewhat, in some places to Maui. California doesn’t get the same rain to compare it to that.Thanks for your nice post.

    3. Since I’m familiar w/all your stories, it’s been very nice to go back and take my time and savor the story. It’s better the second time around just like Bette and Sissee’s love for one another. Bette just doesn’t fully realize it as yet. I love this chapter b/c you captured the ambience of Maui and the languid nature of the setting. I wish I was there right now!

    5. Phew, Sissee, once again you prove to me that you are an excellent writer. I especially like your descriptions of B & S when they were enjoying their surrounding nature while lying on the beach (under the palm tree, all those natural sounds, waves, a bird singing), you even mingle those with songs from the boom box, very realistic indeed. I am still waiting for Sissee (or Bette) to make the first move to express her love to the other! :-) Great story my friend!

    7. Bette’s Babe, Thank you for your kind words. I may not have a lot of readers but I sure appreciate the ones I do have. I am afraid that first move you talked about is a few chapters away but I hope you will find it worth waiting for.
