The Darker Side of Tina Chapter 4

    At home

An exhausted Tina slipped her key into the lock at nearly 4:00am. Taking her high heels off outside, she quietly stepped onto the hardwood floor of the front entryway. The house was dark and peaceful. She walked into the kitchen, put her purse on the counter top, and turned the light on over the stove. She immediately noticed the empty tequila bottle lying sideways on the counter, next to it was a salt shaker and a shot glass. A twinge of guilt stabbed at her stomach. She threw the tequila bottle in the garbage and put the salt back in the cupboard with a sigh. Getting herself a glass of water, she crossed into the living room and turned on a lamp. Picking up the book she’d left on the coffee table, she lay down on the couch and began to read. Tina didn’t even get to read an entire page before she fell into a restful sleep.

Bette woke up at six to get ready for work. She stood up too fast, making herself lightheaded on top of having a massive hang over. She stumbled towards the kitchen to get some Tylenol and noticed Tina shivering on the couch. I don’t even want to know where she was last night, Bette told herself. Retrieving a blanket from their room, she returned and gently spread it over Tina.

Bette sat down on the coffee table and watched Tina sleep. Oh, T, what have I done to us? I wish you could understand how sorry I am and how much I hurt inside for what I did. I want to make it all right, baby, and I know I can’t. Bette kneeled down on the floor, reached over and gently moved Tina’s hair off her face, pushing it behind her ear. I love you so much, T, I love you so much. I wish I could make you understand. Bette ran her thumb over Tina’s soft, pale cheek. Trying not to cry, she leaned forward and gave Tina a soft kiss. Tina breathed in deeply, opened her eyes a little, and looked up at Bette, “I love you.” She said, in a breathy whisper. Then she turned over and immediately fell back to sleep.
