The Gathering 01.76 –  Turbulence pt 5 – Shattered

            Dana was standing in the bright sunshine, playing with her racket and waiting for Jayden to finish lacing up her sneakers.  She was nervous, she was full of energy, she was ready to take the world on and she was Dana ***** Fairbanks.  There was nothing that was going to stop her from getting back up and trying this again, not even the gods that had thrown her this twist in her road. 

            “Come on all ready Masters, how long does it take for you to tie a shoe.  Lara get over here and let me volley to you.”  Lara sat on the bleachers, letting the sun warm her in a relaxed position.  She snorted at the offer/order that came from Dana’s pretty lips.

            “***** no, you ever seen me on a tennis court before?  No?  Well there is a reason why.  I tried it one afternoon and I found that my childlike qualities came out all too easily.  My talents Dana, lay else where as you well know.”  Lara said glibly and Dana shook her head and waited for Jayden.

            “Ready?”  Jayden said, serving the ball softly, and Dana hit it, but not hard.  She bounced on her feet, feeling good, feeling great. 

            “Oh yeah, now this is almost as good as *****…”  Dana said, feeling totally at ease as she and Jayden volleyed the ball easily back and forth, Dana hit the ball harder and Jayden let it wiz by her.

            “HEY!”  Jayden pointed the racket at her and said in a commending tone of voice.  “I said to take it easy Dane, come on.  We are here against doctor’s orders you know.”  Dana sighed and nodded, letting Jayden serve to her again, she felt her body quiver each time she hit the ball, either with excitement or with nervousness.  She had to be able to play she didn’t know anything else on this earth she was good at besides tennis.

            Kit, Bette and Alice sat at the table at the Planet talking to Alice about her decision, a huge life altering one to day the least.
