The Good Sister #17 – Touch Tones

Bette - the good sister story image

    Bette — Outside LAX –

Inching toward the luxury car leasing window, I consider for a moment that no one is here to greet me, how I’m a lone traveler arriving, and that they’re over, over, over all the times when Tina would, without question, be outside waiting for me. I throw up my hands in surrender. ”I get it. You’re busy being torn into a million pieces by shooting schedules, and assholes. And yes, that all sounds like it hurts like hell, and is quite miserable, but what if I needed you at the airport?”

That’s what I’d like say if I could get her on the phone, or write above our house by hiring a plane to smoke out my message in the sky.

Please look up from your stupid movie, and  . . .

    Cloud women rising

    . . . and notice that I’m home.

When we first met, it was her Pontiac that would faithfully appear, and the story of how she came to have it, given to her by a friend in Chicago, who had handed over his keys one night while shouting, ”I get it. Go out west! Take my car.”

Strange to think how we really got here.  Sometimes, so strange . . . I dismiss the thought.

Year number two was our trip to France, and if there’s anything better than their delicious food followed by starry nights drinking French wine I’ve yet to discover a more velveteen mixture, so perfectly tuned to falling in love.

As my Lincoln Town car pulls up to the curb, I catch my reflection in its windows. Even after a sordid excursion through Louisiana and Texas I still look fabulous.  I tell the driver my address, point to my luggage, and slide into the back seat. Finally, a person who will do exactly what I ask, and take me exactly where I want to go.

    Which is fucking home.

    vineyard - grape harvest

Wine country . . . I should take there her again, back to that Inn she loves, and book the suite upstairs that overlooks the fields that go on and on until you can’t make them out anymore.  Back to where we had played along the edges of a burning that seemed to slow dance and sway and brush against itself for two wet and beautiful blow my mind hours, when I had felt it.

    1. Oh, dear lord, it seems the shit has arrived and Bette is clueless, she is a little absorbed with herself and doesn’t pay attention on what is going around her, she better be careful.

Great pictures! And thank you for the update!

Well damn! Bette needs to think about how she handles this situation with T. However, looking forward to her sorting out those bitches from Miami! Eagerly awaiting the next installment

    3. Just now got all up-to-date. Looking forward to seeing how this unfolds. I”m a huge Pam Grier fan, so anytime you work in Kit, I’m there all over it. On a side note: I sometimes imagine a wall at your house covered with post-it-notes and yarn linking plot elements together, as you always have so many subplots twisting in and out. Or do you keep this all in your head, BB? If you do and can, I am in awe and amazement!

You write romance like no other: A kiss that lasted so long – it had finally shot through me like a lightning bolt…gives me goosebumps…like your sense of humour; you know exactly where to place it too: you guys don’t have to come back next time, okay? It’ll be safer that way…(funnyyyy). You do have Bette working harder keeping her focus on Tina more now than having drifting off in a cloud…
Yes, you need to bring those Miami chicks back into play…I like having Kit here; Kit is a great aunt to Angelica; but truly doesn’t have the time nor concentration to look after Angelica for long periods of time at the moment…seriously, considering Shane…let’s see where that takes you…so enjoying your writing…

@Blackbird_write Well done! I always loved how Kit could lay that reality smack down to Bette; revealing her vulnerability.
Via Twitter – I also enjoyed that fine balance of Bette’s nostalgia for the “old” T & her equal partner she’s planning to spoil????

You have taken your story line to a whole new level…Tina going to a Gypsy to entrust her relationship now with Bette will survive…wow…did not see that coming…so thrilled you did that. Tina is smart to realize she needs someone to ride shotgun is right…someone who has the stomach & nerves of steel to handle the game plan to take over Aaron’s job.
Laughed when I read Tina blushed recalling the sex with Helena at unusual places….right
place in the storyline to place this…I understand Bette now; so not surprised the complexity of Bette hating & trying to get Tina back at the same time…you did a fantastic job with Bette’s character. Like how you didn’t make Jodi a wimp of a character…Bette leaving her won’t have
shedding tears…Good to see Joyce back in the play…self assured; spoils herself comes to mind; can manoeuver anyone she wants…maybe that is the definition of a lawyer…haven’t given much thought to it…No one lectures Bette; though I don’t think Joyce had that in mind…
Bette & Joyce cooking…looking forward to that challenge…well…looking forward to the next chapter better put…you are one intriguing writer…can’t get enough of you…;-)

    7. I am slowly updating my reading,
I hope to do this as quickly as possible.
Photo of Bette at the beginning of the page is great! go to my file.
      Bette back home, very good.
      The entire constellation.
