    Chapter 19

    LA 2025

    “I think we’ve lost him” Bette stated the obvious as they both glanced at a sleeping Shane sandwiched between them.

    “Bless him, Al really freaked him out” Tina said just above a whisper

    Bette looked puzzled.

    “He thought we all ate kittens”

    “Eh”

    “Pussy Bette” Tina clarified with a smile despite the fact she disliked that particular terminology.

    Bette raised her eyebrows and broke out in a giggle at the blush that now flushed Tina’s cheeks, even after all these years her wife was just too damn cute. “Come here you”

    Tina rose from her side of the bed and ambled over to Bette causing no disturbance to their sleeping grandson.

    They quickly settled into their usual positions and were content simply lying there listening to the other breathing despite the occasional outbreak of laughter from the other room.

    Just for a little while they both put what was never far from their thoughts since Tina’s diagnosis, Monday and the operation was put to the far recess’s of their minds.“Mmmmmm, we don’t do this enough” Bette whispered into Tina’s ear.

    ‘What have a house full of craziness”

    “No this, just cuddle without it being a prelude to something else, sleep, sex, saying goodbye, this is nice”

    “Nice?” Tina questioned feeling a little affronted, ice cream was nice, coffee was nice, even on the odd occasion she had been pushed to describe Helena as nice but to label laying in your one and only’s arms as nice was unsatisfactory in anyone’s book of relationship do’s and do not’s. “Nice?” Tina repeated only this time with a little more venom than the original levity.

    Bette was a little taken aback at Tina’s reaction to a simple ill advised choice of words but then this seemed to be happening more and more of late “Did I say nice? What I meant was this is heaven” Bette attempted to pull Tina closer however Tina pulled away

    “Bullshit” Tina spat

    “Tee, come on, I was really enjoying just laying here with you, please don’t spoil it” Bette pleaded

Then it was alright when Tina remembered Bette forgetting the shoes and Shane poking fun at them standing in the middle of a monsoon after their wedding vows. And now… Now I’m worried again.
