“Game’s at 3 Porter, don’t be late.” Dana warns.

“I know and I’m never late. Game doesn’t start without me anyway.” Bette winks and gives the group her most cocky smile. They smile back rolling their eyes and groaning in unison.

“Hey T? Do you have any tampons?” Bette walks up to Eric and Tina. Her voice feigns urgency. Tina fights a chuckle as Eric’s eyes widen and his cheeks blush a deep crimson. He sticks his hands in his pockets quickly and pretends to kick a rock.

“Oh yeah, Bette. I have some in my locker.” She smiles at her girlfriend sweetly then turns to Eric who still looks shocked. “I’ll see you later in class, okay?” She gives him an apologetic smile and turns to walk away with Bette. She bumps her shoulder affectionately.

“Perfect timing babe but I think you just traumatized the captain of the football team.”

“Doesn’t he have any sisters?” Bette laughs out loud. She thoroughly enjoyed embarrassing the big tough jock.

“Guess not! That was pretty funny, baby.” Tina joins in on the laugh.

“What did he want?” Bette asks with a proud smile after picking up their bags and walking outside. She squints momentarily. The sun finally broke though the clouds. The day is warm and sunny.

“He was asking me to Prom.” Tina waits for Bette’s reaction with bated breath. She raises her eyebrows when Bette doesn’t respond. In fact, it surprises her completely.

“We should talk about that.”

“What?” Tina asks, completely taken aback by Bette’s lack of outburst.

“The prom. I think we should go.”

“What? Us?”

“Well, not together. Well yeah, together, maybe double date.”

“Are you fucking serious? You want me to go to Prom with Eric? And who the fuck will you go with?” Tina’s eyes alight with a jealous fire.

“I’ve had a few people ask me.” Bette continues quickly, seeing her girlfriend ready to pounce. “I think we should go. I think if we don’t go, we’ll really regret it someday, years from now. I mean everyone has a crazy prom story. We won’t have any crazy prom stories to tell our kids if we don’t go.” Bette finishes with a wave of her hand. Tina’s temper fades quickly. She melts at her girlfriend talking about their future so surely.
