    The L WING – Chapter 198

    Narration of First Lady Tina Kennard Porter

     

    I never thought that I would ever enjoy being pregnant but as I undress I have to admit that I really feel amazing. It’s a feeling of being part of a miracle and despite all the tiredness and the aches and pains I am in the very fortunate position of having a very rich partner who indulges my every need. I am blessed to be married to one very stunning Bette Kennard Porter. She has been the best wife ever and I know that what we share is special.

    The bathroom door opens and Bette appears wrapped in a huge white towel – she looks good.

    You okay? “She asks moving across and slipping her arms through mine

     

    “I am fine “

     

    She strokes the baby “How’s Ella?”

     

    “Finally stopped a work out. Mind you she definitely feels like she has shifted her position.”

     

    “Is she pressing down on your bladder?”

     

    “She was but not at the moment – she’s fine “

     

    “I wake up every morning wondering if this is going to be the day when we become a family and have Ella to cherish “

     

    “Freaks you out doesn’t it?”

     

    “Hell yes – you okay though T?”

    “I’m fine – I feel good “

     

    “Are you up to tonight?”

     

    “Sure – my last public appearance – I’ll be glad to get away from the spot-light – I know the press are obsessed about us but it’s been insane “

     

     

    “The nation loves you almost as much as I do – its terrific Tina. It blows me away when we go out that we get all the cheers and flowers and we are a lesbian couple – does that not fry your mind sometimes?”

     

    “Yes – and it’s a huge responsibility that we are the nation’s leading couple and we are lesbians – it’s massive “

     

     

    “If we have made one woman less self conscious about her sexuality then we have done well “

     

    I turn and look at her “One woman – Bette you have to come and read some of the mail I get from all sorts of women who have finally had the nerve to come out to their friends and their families after years of staying hidden. After years of being ashamed of who they love they have come out because they see two gay women walking down a street and being cheered. I think it only really hit me in the last few weeks how freaking amazing our legacy really is. We are role models in a way that no lesbian couple has ever been “
