Chapter 236
Narration of President Bette Kennard-Porter
Tina and I have been in our room since about 9pm. I have been trying to unwind since I got back from Washington but so far I am just as tense as I have been all day. We have been watching a DVD – well I guess Tina has watched it but I have been just gazing into the distance lost in my own thoughts. Tina went and got Ella for her last feed of the day – that helped. Seeing Tina breast feeding our daughter really means a lot to me – it grounds me – it shakes me out of my sulk about the whole situation. I guess one of the reasons I am really feeling sorry for myself is my ankle is throbbing like tooth ache and I am too stubborn to just take a couple of painkillers and crash out and sleep. I know that introspection is one of my worst character flaws and over the past couple of years it has improved – Tina doesn’t let me sulk.
I need to get a grip – I am worried sick about Shane – I am pretty angry with Carmen for lying to Tina and for not supporting Shane at what must be a horrendous time for her. There is the constant wondering about my mother, my anger at dad and Kit. All of that is on top of my thinking about the economy , bills going through in the next few months, the state of the union speech in January, a summit in Dublin – do I go solo or take Tina – and that brings questions about Ella. We need a nanny for Ella – which is not going to be as easy – not many nannies are required to get full security clearing before we can see if they get on with our daughter.
I am so lost in my thoughts that I don’t notice that Tina is missing until I glance across to speak to her. Has Ella woken up and I haven’t noticed ? After about five minutes she comes back from the bathroom. She is just wearing a long white shirt, her long blonde hair is tied back in a pony tail – she stands at the foot of the bed and waits for a few seconds

OMG more drama love the update. but i think bette is pushing shane to hard… what is this mention of pms in bed during romantic moment,lol that would kill it for me. more please! :)PPS

I am so glad to see this story back, and we are graced with two chapters…doing the happy dance! I love the fact that Bette is completely and unconditionally in love with Tina, but Bette needs to get her act together, being her priorities, and start being POTUS again. What happened to that confident, alpha Bette? She needs to realize that she can have her family and be a great president. If she does, everything else will fall into place. Ally, I absolutely love this story and am very passionate about it. I have read it from the start three times and the way you write is amazing. Thank you for continuing this wonderful story!!! PPVS

Bette has a big mouth and didn’t know when to shut it, the buzzkill. I rather resent she rationalized Tina’s reaction (when they were in bed together) as PMS. Bette provoked the reaction whether or not it was heightened by hormones. And Shane is wrong about a lot of things, but Tina HAS been a bully in the past although I don’t yet see any evidence of that in this situation. But she IS capable of it. Shane IS messed up and Bette is correct to have removed her, but I don’t think she should impose on Shane’s private life (insisting that Shane relate to her family according to Bette’s demands) as condition for employment. Not that we haven’t seen a number of families involved in the highest levels of government, as an American I find talk of dynasties VERY disturbing.
