“You think she is fixing them ?”
“She is the Chief of Staff- if anyone can fiddle the results its her “

I look at Bette
“I know that things are bad but do you think she is capable of that level of deviousness ?”
Bette shrugs “ Who knows – I do know that I am too trusting “
“You have to trust the Senior Staff “ I protest
“I have had more problems from the Senior Staff than the Russians . Its time I stopped being such a soft touch – apart from with you my darling – shall we go and look at the Christmas tree again “
“She loves the Christmas tree “ I explain to Melvin
“So did Bette “ Melvin smiles “ It used to fascinate you “
Bette looks at her father
“Come and look at it with us “
“I think I will get the camera – it will be a nice picture – three generations of Porters around the Christmas tree “
“I would love a picture of all three of you by the tree “ Melvin says
Bette smiles “ I think that we can make that happen – how about one of you and Ella by the tree ?”

Melvin leaves after a very long lunch which lasted until after 3pm – I take Ella upstairs for her nap and leave them alone. I figure that they need to sort things out for themselves without me. Before he leaves I go downstairs and I give him a hug. Bette and her father exchange a huge hug which really makes me happy. Left alone Bette looks at me

Happy Birthday to you AllyE. You’re a Scorpio, so am I. No wonder you can write such romantic stuff when you’ve a mind to. This was a great chapter and has Tina gone from the frying pan to the fire over Bette’s mother? Wonder just how much info Bette knows about Tina’s research. Certainly hope Bette does not blame Tina for the research or for not telling her about it. Bette can get on her high horse at times. Tina loves her very much and is trying to find a way to lessen the pain for her. PPS or post when you can.

yeah, good question from Bette to Tina and T shouldn’t be telling B how to feel. She didn’t live thru B’s experience. Besides which T is lying by omission; omission or commission: imo, never trust a liar. Nice afternoon they had but T don’t lecture Bette especially when ur keeping something from her. Still a great story.
