    Melvin meets Tina

     

    You have one hell of a woman there Bette

    I know – shes just perfect isnt she

    He adores her

     

    I think he does

     

     

    Its obvious – do whatever it takes to keep her as your girlfriend

     

    There is no way I am going to risk what we have

     

    After we hug I turn to look at Tina just as Kit grabs her and pulls her close – she says something to her and Tina blushes.

     

    After Kit leaves Tina turns to me I should go babe

     

    I know god this hurts — it actually hurts

     

     

    She turns to Melvin who Is standing watching us with a look of amusement on his face .

    Its been an honour to met you Melvin

    Tell me – both of you — do you take me as a fool ?

     

    Of course not dad

    Certainly not Melvin

     

    So why are you getting ready for sad farewells ? For the last hour the two of you have been looking at each other as if one of us was about to be sent to the gallows. You are both young – you have been together only a few months – of course you want to share every night in each others arms – why are you even thinking of spending the night apart?

     

    My dad has shocked me in the past but he has never stunned me like this. I look at him and then at Tina .

     

    We didnt want to embarrass you I explain

     

     

    Why would the two of you embarrass me ?

     

    You have never seen me with anyone before

     

    I know and do you know how many years I have looked forward to seeing the passion in your eyes – not for a cause or for a book but for a human being ? Your sister is passionate about people — you never have been – I despaired at times Bette and finally I see it . I saw it when we met up in New York and you spent the whole meal telling me about your Press Secretary. I heard the passion when you first told me about her and I see it now — I see the love you have for her – the lust you have for each other. I will sleep very happily tonight knowing my little girl is lying in the arms of the woman she loves and who loves her. I was nervous today – I hoped that my future daughter in law would like me – I hope you dont think I am too crusty or set in my ways Tina ?
