    The Roommates – 2nd Dimension: Chapter 28

    Sighing to herself and trying to steady her nerves, Bette flipped on the porch light and cautiously opened the front door. She gazed out at a familiar pair of soft blue eyes and took in the sight of the woman before her. The thin face and high cheekbones that resembled her own. The cascade of silky blonde hair that fell down around the womans shoulders, the locks hanging mostly on the right side of her pretty face, a part on the left. The pink length shirt, black slacks, and Coach purse that spoke of class, taste, and style . The diamonds of the womans gold Cartier watch, gold bracelet, and matching earrings that glimmered in the porch light and hung familiarly on smooth, tanned skin. The air of the womans nature which seemed to whisper conservative. And the subtle scent of a floral perfume that tickled the caramel colored womans nose and brought with it the traumatizing memory of a dark afternoon when this once lovely and seemingly sacred scent was mixed with the smell of ***** and Bettes world had come crashing down all around her.

    Bette.who is it?, called Karen, rubbing her eyes sleepily before making it to the bottom of the steps to look out. The door bell had already awakened her from the gentle beginnings of sleep and shed wanted to make sure there wasnt an axe murderer at the door.

    Tina was still loading the dishes, pausing for a minute to hear her girlfriends reply.

    Karen could finally see and she stood locked in place on the last step, gazing out to the porch light and the figure of her older sister. Janice?, she asked, curiously, as if her eyes must be deceiving her.

    Mom., said Bette, her voice absent of emotion.

    Mom?, Tina mouthed to herself, before the glass she was holding slipped out of her hand and shattered on the tile floor of the kitchen.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    As she stared into the sparkling blue eyes of the woman that had given birth to her, Bette became the victim of an internal struggle between longing and resentment. After Janices sudden departure from her life, the willful young woman had cried herself to sleep for weeks on end; her spirit aching for the smooth gentle tones of her mothers voice, wracking her brain to figure out what she could have done to keep Janice Porter from walking out the door. In the still of night, with darkness surrounding her and only the sound of her soft cries to break the silence, Bette would curl into a ball, holding her arms close to her chest, ashamed of her tears and filled with an overpowering sense of loneliness. She would imagine her mother knocking softly at the door before entering and sitting down beside her daughter on the comfy four-post bed, whispering softly that she was home to stay, rubbing Bettes back reassuringly as she spoke in soft, loving tones. But this fantasy never came true for the conflicted young woman. Janice hadnt returned and Bettes tear-filled nights continued on until the pain began to gradually fade away. The wound of her mothers abandonment finally began to heal; a bitter mix of anger and resentment forming the scar tissue of her wounded spirit.
    3. MTS… you have been missed…welcome back.. love this story…and i am so glad tina is there for bette…. hopefully….and i know its a lot to ask for but maybe baeete and her mom could talk and bette learns why she left… from melvins track record i don’t trust him…. thanks for the long chapter and keep writing..
    4. SUPERB!! Tina…what a sweetheart!! Poor Bette=( Damn, doesn’t Janice realize what she’s done to her daughter? How much pain she’d put her daughter through by leaving? Wow, there must be a reason behind it all or she’s just really dense!! Loved it MTS! Congrats on the move by the way! Hope all is well in the new home! Take cares and please update soon!
    5. The first thing I do in the morning is to look for your new chapter. I missed reading your story for a few days, but I have to say it was worth the wait….although I would prefer not to wait so long. You’re really great writer.
    7. MTS,
      Have just caught up with reading all of this story. And ‘WOW!’ Sheer pleasure.
      The emotions are so honest and real. Your fantastic style and prose just envelops me. Even in this time of despair the love and adoration between Bette and Tina is astounding. This is due to your talent.
      Thank you for sharing it with me.
      It is a genuine masterpiece.
      I hope that Bette, with Tina’s assistance, finds some resolution with her mother. This is probably Bette’s biggest flaw; the inability to share her raw emotions with another. This is an abandonment issue but Tina will support her through hopefully to accept what and why her mother did this.
      Awaiting your next installment as each one puts a warm glow around by heart and a grin on my face.
      Your loyal fan.
    8. Fancey Bette’s mum walking in like that and acting like nothing ever happened, what’s with that?!?!?!?! Awww Bette and Tina are just so right for eachother they can both bring one another back up when they need it! Great story MTS PLEASE keep it up!!!!!!!!!!
    9. I do miss the frequent postings but when you hit us with phrases like, “…but she’d seen the shattered remnants of her actions” I can well appreciate the time taken to carve out another chapter from that crafty mind of yours. I was never a big Tina fan but, after this chapter I am awed by her. Her ability to take Bette away from the pain, allbeit temporarily, was exactly what was required. The idea of them in the future as the distraction was excellent, as it gives Bette a feeling of belonging, acceptance and being cared for by another when those very things have been challenged by her mom’s sudden re-appearance. Post soon MTS!
    10. Great job…again. And, yes, I’ve printed out all of your chapters, so if you ever decide to get published let me know and you can have them! But I get the first autographed copy of the book! Keep up the good work.
    11. I just HAD to read this when I saw that you posted, MTS!! I love how they’re always able to comfort the other and to make each other feel better. Another wonderful chapter. :) Thank you! Now I’m gonna have to haul ass so I’m not late for class! LOL
