    The Roommates – 2nd Dimension: Chapter 43

The blonde followed Courtney with her eyes before packing her things up and heading toward the mother and daughter.

Courtney’s mother, still clad in the colorful print top and white pants she wore as an aide at the nearby nursing home, smiled warmly at Tina as her daughter stood before her, excitedly holding up the presents she’d received.

    “Hello Miss Tina”, said Beverly.

“Mommy. Mommy. Mommy. Mommy. Look what Miss Tina gave me. Look it. Look it.”

“Okay, baby. Okay. I see it.”, said Beverly.

“She’s been doing really well. I want her to start keeping a journal. I think it will help develop her sentence building skills.”, said Tina.

“That sounds great. I can’t thank you enough, Miss Tina. She really adores you. Every week all I hear is ‘Miss Tina this, Miss Tina that.’ You are truly a blessing.”

“Thank you”, said Tina, the color rising to her cheeks.

“No, thank you. Really.”, said Beverly.

They chatted for a few more moments before she reminded both Courtney and Beverly of her instructions for journaling and made her way outside.

Tina didn’t know Beverly well at all, but she could determine quite a few things from their brief meetings and her interaction with Courtney. Courtney was always well-dressed, respectful, and polite. Her nearly immaculate appearance was in contrast to the tattered tennis shoes and drawn, tired look her mother always wore. Tina understood that Beverly was a woman that worked hard and wanted only the best for her child. And she didn’t need to hear how much her efforts were appreciated, she could see the gratitude in Beverly’s weary brown eyes.

As she stepped outside the building and made her way to the parking lot, Tina’s mind was still wrapped in the warm feeling she got from making a difference in a young life. McKinley Elementary was one of the poorest schools in South Central Los Angeles and the reading program was one of the bright spots in the school’s existence. Children like Courtney needed the Tina Kennard’s of the world. The children often came from broken homes, had parents that worked too hard for too little money, or had no real parents at all.

    1. That mess?! She was just praising “that mess”!!! Grrrr people anger me so much. I know you have to bring on the drama MTS, but ahhhh. I hate seeing Tina hurt. Poor Courtney. I hope she develops a mind of her own as she grows up.

    2. Well DAMN!

Most women like Beverly always take the moral highroad.
I don’t see her doing something as civilized as talking to Tina 1-on-1 about this.
She is gonna want someone’s head and that someone will be

      “Miss Tina!”

    3. Awww shucks! I was hoping that Beverly would appreciate when someone found true love and happiness, since it seems that she’s raising her dauhter on her own. But, I guess we all saw this one coming. Sorry to say that that’s pretty much true to form how things go. Maybe after the dust settles in a little while, Tina can have a calm civil conversation with Beverly. Hope that Courtney isn’t the one that suffers the most from this. Love your story.

    4. I just shake my head and think to myself “what the fuck is wrong with people?” Get the blinders off woman and get caught up with the real world. Probably the best thing that could have happened to her little girl and her backward thinking takes a front seat. Sorry for ranting, but homophobic people irk me to no end. Great story by the way.

    5. just for the record, I hate small minded people. Its funny the fear they have of something so beautiful. But tina is strong and loves her some bette. It will be difficult but … mts – i have a seatbelt but i dont need a coffin. heehee. this was wonderful.

    6. Ya know Beverly should be grateful that Tina is such a positive influence in Courtney’s life and that she’s helping her. Tina’s sexual orientation has nothing to do with her teaching abilities. And in my opinion, gay people are smarter anyway lol Looks like things are guna get messy ek

    7. Okay, love this story but very saddened by this turn of events. It’s always innocent kids that suffer at the errors of parentst. I wish you would reconsider where you were going with this – there must be others ways to discuss homophobia.

    8. Damn just when it was getting quiet, here comes the drama. Oh well buckle your seatbelts. I hope Tina’s heart isn;t too broken by this mother’s attitude. or that she’ll think about how her parents will react to her coming out. Great story as always, so glad you’re back

    9. good to have u back, damn every single time things start 2 look up a whole bunch of drama comes bach down to ur lovely girls, wait till tina goes back 2 the elementary shcool, besides why does it matter if tina is gay, hey as long as she is a good influence on courtney, as it’s obvious she is. thanx 4 the post.

    10. AHHH! I HATE CLOSE MINDED PEOPLE!!! Why does it matter, really? Sheesh. . love this story though . .I hope that B&T continue to be who they are together even in public. . .because no matter what they will always have to face people who do not agree with their lifestyle, this will be such a life lesson for them. Does that make sense? HAha, anyway. . .please post soon!

    11. Hey MTS,

Looks like Tin is in for a turbulent time. After nurturing and supporting Bette through her time of despair, I think its pay back time. Big style!

I think that you have plenty of experience to highlight the small mindedness of some people and how this can destroy lives and relationships.

A time to be strong and deflect the hatred of the ignorant.

As ever, this is a piece of art. A master stroke of a master’s brush.

You have crafted these characters and event with such genius that I applaud you.

I will be lurking in the background awaiting your next installement.

      Thank you.
