The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019: Chapter 26

The encounter had scarred her in ways she had never imagined. She’d felt true fear. She had been disoriented and off-balance. Sidney’s attack had been uncharacteristic and shocking. Bette had vowed that she’d never speak of it to anyone who didn’t already know what had transpired.

Bette and James were in the “war room” again late on Sunday morning. They were discussing the topic selection for the artist’s dinner, working through ideas to stimulate conversation during lulls. Alice suddenly appeared, holding a white bag of takeout from The Planet and balancing a drink carrier that held four cups of coffee. She’d brought one for herself, along with one for James, Maxwell, and Bette.

“Alice, hey!” said James. He was standing near the white projector screen, dressed comfortably in a dark blue sweater and jeans. His smile was genuine. He’d always loved Alice’s spunk.

“Hey yourself handsome!” she replied. “I got your non-fat latte. I know you watch your boyish figure.”

James laughed. “You know me so well.”

    “That’s why you love me.”

    He grinned. “Perhaps.”

She smiled at him and set her treats on the table. “There’s muffins and goodies in here. Help yourself. I need to borrow your boss for a moment.”

Bette nodded at James. “I’ll be right back, okay?”

    “Take your time,” he said.

Bette led the way to her office. “Thanks for the food, Alice. If it’s one thing I have not had to worry about for the past few days, it’s food.”

Alice closed Bette’s door behind them. “Yeah?” asked Alice.

Bette sat down on her sofa and Alice sat beside her. “Yeah. Tina has sent lunch to the office every day. It’s been kind of nice. My staff and the contractors have been really happy about it.”

Alice’s eyes grew wide. “That’s amazing. She’s really into you, huh?”

Bette shrugged. “I think so. But we’re still on a break. We both agreed.”

“So you talked it over with her? Not talked about it AT her?”

Bette grinned. “Yes, Mom. I did. She understands my reasoning. It’s actually helped free me emotionally to concentrate on getting things taken care of for Sidney.”

“How is she doing? Is she settling well at the treatment center?” asked Alice.

    1. Thank you for chapter!

Alice tell Bette a few right thing about Tina, but i wish that she put her energy on her relationship and let Bette be mature person.
Bette realy needs to grow up and start thinking her own head and not always listen Alice.
Shane drugdealer – i like this twist. But Tina attended hairdressing salon too – she also addict? No it coldn’t be, right?

    2. As much as Alice is right about Bette not knowing enough about Tina, I still hope that Bette will follow her heart and instincts and keep her trust in Tina. Don’t let Alice put doubts in her mind, don’t let Bette end it with Tina. She should remember that in her former life (like the sound of that ;-)) she and Tina were always at their best when they were near each other and talked about their fears and problems. Together they would find a way to handle every obstacle.

Tina is not malicious but insecure. It will be hard for Bette to learn that T is married. But she should give Tina the chance to open up, to talk about her life, about her manipulative and narrow-minded family and about her deep feelings for Bette. It’s all new for Tina but hopefully she’ll take a first step and divorces Henry before Bette even learns about the marriage. She should do it for herself, she deserves to live her life how she wants to not how others expect her to.

Thanks for posting, looking forward to more.
