The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 2
Janice cleared her throat. “But, enough of that. Let me show you around the rest of the place and then I’ll let you get showered.”
When her grand tour was over, Bette padded back to her room and checked her phone once more.
“10:30,” she said aloud, wondering silently if she should call Tina.
It’s only 7:30 back home. I should really let her get some rest, she thought.
Walking into the adjoining bathroom, Bette still really couldn’t get her bearings. On Saturday she’d been in Tina’s arms in LA and today she was in her mother’s primo pad in New York. She stood under the hot water, letting the heat soothe away her fatigue, letting the warmth caress her.
I don’t even know my mother. All this time I’ve been judging her and I hardly even know her. Thank God I’ve got this time to find out who she is. She’s trying so hard. And I know she really does love me., she thought.
“Good morning, Tina. Time to wake up,” Tracy chimed.
Sleepy hazel eyes glanced over at the image tied to the familiar voice.
“We’ve got to leave for church in about an hour,” said Tracy.
Tina nodded and mumbled an affirmative response before turning back over.
Tracy left her daughter to get dressed, vowing to herself that she’d return if there was no movement in the next ten minutes.
Running her hand through her tousled locks, Tina slid out of bed and shuffled over to close her door. She leaned against it and folded her arms.
“Church?” she whispered to herself.
She’s forgotten all about church. Growing up, they didn’t go every Sunday but the Kennard clan made regular appearances on Easter and Christmas. Their Sunday visit went much deeper than going to worship God in a fellowship of believers. It was a social and societal statement by her parents that their youngest daughter was home from college and they were ready to show her off to the members of their church.
And Tina didn’t like it.
She was shuffling back over to her bed to find her phone and give Bette a quick call when her mother did another quick knock-entry.

Thanks for the update. I can’t wait for more! I love how you keep everything so realistic!
i totally know how tina feels of not belonging, i hope that the distance and their families won’t stay on the way of B&T’s love and future
I’m so happy to see you back with this story, MTS! I hope the distance and Tina’s family doesn’t keep the love between Bette and Tina from blossoming! PPS
I always feel elated everytime I see you post. The way you express each character’s emotion is so realistic. Tina’s feelings of not belonging among her family and their community and Bette’s discomfort around her own mother are valid emotions made palpable by your beautiful writing. Thanks for posting!
i think most of us(if not all) can at some point of our lives totally relate to that feeling of not belonging, and you, Ms MTS, have portrayed it perfectly… please keep’em coming, you’ve been missed! ^^,
Finally an update from you. And yes not belonging, it comes and it goes.
Glad to see you updating. Guess that’s the one positive with L-free Sundays… all the lovely writers are back posting! Not feeling too good about Tina’s mom, but enjoying your story.
Hello MTS, So good to have you back. I am just loving Baby B and T. There is such an air of innocence between them. It is appealing and refreshing. Good to see Bette so out of her comfort zone yet looking towards the future. Kit was great in supporting her baby sis through this unsettling time and prompting Melvin to reach out to his daugther before he risked losing her forever. INteresting to see that Bette is finding it diffcult to bond with her mother. So lifelike. Given the time they were apart a few short days cannot overcome a lifetime separated. ON the other hand, Tina all too well realizes that her mother knows something is worng. The parading of her at church is another typical action of proud parents. Like the prodigal child, the fatten calf will be slain and celebrations will follow. Just hope that Tina can keep it together long enough. Can’t wait to see what message Bette leaves for her lover. Sweet and loving I bet. Thank you so much for this amazing adventure. Your Loyal Fan.
Welcome back, dear friend. It is AWSOME to have you posting again this lovely and amazing saga of Baby B and Tiny T. Thanks for bringing us such a delightful story. PPS Sincerely, Lucero & Marsha – From Mexico City
I think mom Kennard is going to cause trouble for our young couple. Is their summer over yet so they can be back together?
Poor tina, eventually she will tell her mom and i don’t think it will be a pretty site either.her mom is very smuthering… great update! :)
I hope the distance and Tina’s Mom’s blatant disapproval won’t tear apart our girls. Great chapter!
god, do i remember, the hell it was to get 4 kids ready for church. thx for the memory ;).
I was so happy to see a post from you. I’ve always loved this story. PPS.
glad to see you back after the absence….when i first came across TLW fan fiction, this story was among those that got me hooked on this site, thx for the update!
wonderful writing as usual, happy dance. I feel real sad for Tina. Its so hard to realise that u don’t fit in your parents’ world any longer yet not want to hurt them and all the time u r missing your gf. Liking Janice. Think Bette got the better deal in the parents’ stakes even if things have been rough for her. At least she is openly out. Tina has to stay in. She must be miserable. PPS.
Poor Tina! Bette definitely is getting the better side of things being in NYC and getting to know her mother. What is the deal w/ Tina’s mom anyway? Is she really this jealous that Tina has someone new in her life or is it that the someone new is a woman? PPS!
Good chapter. Poor Tina, don’t like her mother now and hope her father is a nice man and will be on Tina’s side. Happy for Bette that she is spending time with her mom!
